It could happen within the hour (okay it probably wont but it could!) I'm not going to chance it; I'm staying up all night just in case   |

The halvening most likely will happen within the next ~12 to ~16 hours depending on network luck.
I don't think anything surprising will happen once the 420kth block is found because everything that will change has been anticipated for months in advance and has been known about for years in advance. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that the total block reward will decrease by ~49%.
With that being said, the halvening should still be fun for Bitcoin enthusiasts everywhere, and is something that I will almost certainly watch.
