My B45 order of S9s has hit the United States. I've been buying miners from Bitmain since the S3, and this is the first time I've had DHL tell me I owe import taxes. Apparently the message is coming DHL Canada, perhaps because its the 4th of July Holiday here in the USA? I tried calling Customer Support, which is suppose to be open, but got routed to an old DHL Canadian telephone that told me to update my phone records and call 1-855-DHL-SHIP - very strange.
Anybody else having problems today?
Is it normal to have to pay an import duty, or is this likely some type of screwup because DHL Canada appears to be dealing with things today (and Canadians always pay an import duty).

I didn't pay anything on my Batch 1 unit, although I only bought one then, and this is two units. Excuse me for asking basic questions: But are you USA based, how much was the duty per unit, and were you asked to pay through a Canadian site (dhlmypayument.us which routes to mypayment.dhl.ca)? I'm particularly concerned that a US Import duty would be paid through a Canadian site...

Batch 4 was under $10.00 each.

Well... much to my surprise, DHL showed up with the two power supplies (surprised because today is a national holiday in the US and they were not suppose to be working, but apparently the staff is trying to get residential things out - brownie points for them!) The driver confirmed he found a 3rd package and that when he tried to clear it for delivery was told there was a tax due ($138). Apparently the text was legit, and I have a receipt for payment of the tax addressed to me and duty_payments@dhl.com. Hopefully I'll get the actual units tomorrow. First time for everything I suppose. I do recall reading somewhere that packages under $2500 were tax free (not worth the processing cost I guess), but of course, (2) S9s is closer to $4000.

I'll definitely be staying with ups

Reading that thread next. Thanks for the information. Wish I could have paid the man, but DHL doesn't let them load the packages on the truck until payment has been made.

Reading that thread next. Thanks for the information. Wish I could have paid the man, but DHL doesn't let them load the packages on the truck until payment has been made. most of the money is going to dhl not the feds. every company charges a connivence fee for handling the tax. I believe the tax is .3 percent so a 2000 dollar miner taxes are 6 dollars rest are fees from the shipper in your case dhl. 2 units at 4000 k tax = 12 bucks rest are fees you paid DHL for handling the paperwork and laying the 12 bucks out to the feds. Not that I mind the fees/tax but I read 20 to 30 pages of fed rules and I do have an accounting degree. rate looks like .3% the shipping company can charge you a fee for handling the paperwork. 2000 to 2500 is a gray area for tax. over 2500 is taxable. so right now two of these will be taxed and a fee added by fedex ,ups or dhl and on the strictest interpolation of all the rules I read this gear could be considered a commercial product for business meaning 250 and up is when taxes start. Ups lets you write a check to the driver which is what I did last time.

So about $11 in import tax and $125 in handling fee? If so, I'll stop using DHL...

Each package counts as a separate handling fee. I have stuck with ups even though they grabbed me for the order of two s-9s which were ordered 3 days apart but arrived the same day. I think it was 39 paperwork 6 tax x two = 89.98 for the two. A lot of us got the fees . I have to say you were a bit on the high side but DSL did charge less to ship. So once you figure that in it is close to the same. I ordered 1 more s-9 batch four and it was just under 2000. So no fees from ups on it.

Thanks.... I just paid almost $70 each. That is ridiculous, keep us posted if that charge holds true. I thought about trying DHL on my next order. I'll definitely be staying with ups Contacted DHL and received the following reply: Your shipper did not enter a HTS code on the commercial invoice for this shipment and the shipment was cleared under the HTS code of 8543.70.9960. This HTS code was determined based off on the description of the shipment documentation. It is a 2.6% duty rate and using a value of $3919.00, it would be $101.89 duty plus $25.00 MPF and a $11.00 payment deferment fee. To avoid this in the future we recommend you advise your shipper to enter the correct HTS code for the items being shipped. I have forwarded that to Bitmain to 1) let them know of their errors and 2) seek compensation. I'll keep you posted on how that goes...
