it's designed to last forever for the current system, just hundreds of years or so with the halving taking place every while then it's eventually going to be few satoshi's per block and these satoshi's would have a significant total all value at that time.
The block reward will be 0 in a hundred years. Then the transaction fees will support the network in the future.

me too i am not sure if bitcoin will last forever but i think it would go longer than we expected . lmao if bitcoin would never go last i am sure that there is some new coin that will be alternate of bitcoin . if we imagine bitcoin is still famous until now so maybe this will last forever .
It should last for long time, beyond my life time but not for ever. My challenge is if the world power wont go against it later. Like every other currency if it get enough power as a currency and any power covet its ability to work without them, they might come after it. And if the power is from well to do one, I cant say what can happen then.

Definitely bitcoin will survive centuries because it is not dependent on single central authority who might close and go away from the business. Bitcoin depends on people and run by people. So, there are no possibility for bitcoin to get shut down.

I think bitcoin is here to stay, as long there are people using it, it will lasts. Maybe in the futre, we will see a better cryptocurrency with better features of course there are innovations on going and whoever or what coins the people will support, it will lasts.

I've been thinking about it since last night and I couldn't find an answer to myself. I know that there's a 21 million block cap and we wouldn't actually be here to see that time it comes to that point. But assuming that we have reached reward era 34, what happens then? Miners wouldn't have any rewards from mining then.
Anyone care to help explain a few things for me?
Actually I don't know if bitcoin designed to last forever. Just all I know everything has an end., therefore I think bitcoin will not last forever because if the users gone, so how will it last forever it will disappear.

Yeah I have the same question too, although I do know that it's gonna take almost forever until it reach its point, there must be a time when miners don't have anything to mine then what would happen ? will the answer be forever or will it come to an end someday ?

I am not sure if it is designed to last forever but the real question is if it is also going to last forever because I am sure that if most people quit that it would not last forever. It is all going to depend in what the users are going to do and how they react to Bitcoin.
Yeah you have your point, many things could happen like bitcoin coming to its last destination, people giving up on it, etc. but one thing for sure, if these scenarios are ever gonna happen, it will be long after we'll have been out of this world.

Same here i dont think if bitcoin designed would last forever. Nothing would last forever! But one thing im sure, it would a long term survivor. But if users always used bitcoin then theres a possibility that it will long last until the end

It aint. But it is designed to last longer than our lifespan now so it could be passed to another generarion which will be the one who really make use of it a little better. Remember geniuses are born and someone with the right method could make it more usable.

why should anything last forever? if old stuffs refuse to leave, how new (and greater) stuffs come? for the sake of development, don't expect anything last forever.
You have a point in this matter, we shouldn't expect too much in it. For me there no is last forever, Besides bitcoin is not designed to last forever but design to give hope to the people who are financial broke, to the people who are totally hopeless in life and for the jobless. That's just in my opinion and thought.

yes, bitcoin is designed to last forever if bitcoin can be accepted legally by government at around the world. if that's not happened, bitcoin only can be long last but too fast to say that bitcoin can be last forever.

Bitcoin won't last forever because everything in this world must come to an end. It's like us, even we take care of ourselves everyday, eating healthy foods, going to the gym, living in a healthy lifestyle, still in the end we are gonna die. We just don't know when will it come and it goes the same to bitcoin. Many people are using bitcoins and doing bitcoin to earn bitcoins but who knows that one day when you woke up, bitcoin is gone, you don't know how, why, what, when and so many questions you wanna ask but no one can answer you because they don't even know too. Let's just enjoy using bitcoin right now because we all know that someday it will come to it's end.

I don`t think that amount of bitcoins have some connection with bitcoins life. Simply cause many times explained question is what will happen when all coins are distributed. Bitcoin have many decimals, with limited amount of coins and rising demand price can just go up, that`s why there is a chance 1 satoshi to worth a lot more then now. All that are speculations, if people continue to use bitcoin, and in case that bitcoin become mainstream one day, I think bitcoin can last forever. Bitcoin is still rising, and I think we need to see bitcoin much stronger every next year if we wish to last forever.

In my opinion it was designed to be used in the virtual world and can be also used in the real world if we are going to convert it in cash but it was never designed to last forever, because forever is just a word. Everything in this world will vanish in time. We don't know when is that time but for sure it will come. Only God knows about it. He said that it will come like a robber that we won't notice. This world is so cruel that's why God's already put an end to it including bitcoin will fade away.

For me, it depends if bitcoin is going to keep on rising then I guess many people are going to get interested with it and they are the ones that are going to say that bitcoin is going to be used until fiat money is going to gone because of it. As long as we are here, the users of bitcoins then it is going to keep on alive.

well maybe not forever but for a really long time bitcoins are going to be impossible to actually hack

The first trials with quantum computing haven't been particularly effective so far, so I have no idea what to assume is going to happen in the future.

Quantum computer is likely to break the ECDSA that is used in Bitcoin addresses. Private keys can potentially be derived from a public key and that means the earlier address with only 50BTC block reward in it can be compromised since they used P2PK instead of P2PKH. Newer addresses can be hacked if the private key is revealed after a transaction. I don't see it as a threat since we can easily change the protocol, making it resistant to ECDSA cracking. That being said, Quantum computing is quite expensive to use and Bitcoin would not be the first target of them.
