all these people who say as long as it's running on one computer don't really get the point. everything survives if that's the case.

will it survive and still be thriving? I believe so. most alts are too blinded by greed or incompetence. every day it stays above ground makes it stronger and harder to catch but there'd better be some solutions to the current gripes

As long as there is a computer running the protocol, Bitcoin will be alive. Can't see it happening in the next decades.

But the blockchain technology is immortal
so that is something like all the time in the future only when there will be the end of the world bitcoin will stop existing and i think it is a really good thing because bitcoin is great

Will bitcoin still be there in 2020 or will some other technology better than bitcoin take over?

Bitcoin has one specific advantage, and that's network effect. However, I love also Monero.  Wink

i think 4 years is a very short time for a new technology to take over bitcoin. although i am one of those people who believe that other altcoins have a good chance of growing big and becoming popular like bitcoin but taking over needs bitcoin to be obsolete and the other technology to be super good. so it needs a longer time.

to the moon with bitcoin...

i can't even understand what the fuck you are trying to say here, but i guess bitcoin is at dangerous if few asic will mine it, so the "as long as there is at least one computer mining it" it's not really synonymous of something good

This is a question that nobody is bale to answer because we do not know the answer, many things can happen with Bitcoin in the future.
It can be taken over by a bank it can disappear but it can also be going really good with it.

That's the reality, anything would happen with bitcoin. But the possibility for banking with bitcoin won't happen because the unique decentralization of crypts gets affected. Possibly bitcoin lasts longer as calculated based upon halvings.

bitcoin will continue to survive until 2140 after bitcoin depleted mined. but for a new technology that will compete with bitcoin, did not rule out the possibility of it will occur in the future.

Future is quite uncertain however within next 4 years i am not seeing any other alts replacing bitcoin. Atleast blockchain tech will now live till humanity however bitcoin can also survive because it can self balance itself even many miners leave and it don't get lot more support.

If everyone with an interest in the well being of the future of BTC would buy just 1 simple full node such as the one designed by Chris Ellis to run on a Rasberry PI, there'd be a heck of a lot of distribution geographically to keep the network stable (well under $80-90ish I think), even if it didn't contribute a lot in terms of PetaHash/s.

Forever is not possible, but it should be able to exist at least for a few decades. Till then many altcoins will compete but in the end bitcoin will win. Then something completely new will be invented.

There are some altcoins today that hold great promises.

What are the chances of something completely new and better than bitcoin being invented?

Blockchain is technology and that is new, I don't believe we will see something new in some close period of time. Bitcoin opened a door into something new, and even now we see some altcoins try to find their place on global market. Normally that we will see new things, but btc will be one and only, first of its kind. Anything new that we see, will come from bitcoin idea. Cause of that btc will last much longer then some people think.

Once the userbase of bitcoin increases there will also be many challenges that bitcoin will need to overcome before it can become a normal currency.

one important thing is to increase the block size to 2mb as that will be enough for the coming 2 to 4 years. and maybe that the core developers will also release a light weight wallet. and yes, i know there are already light weight wallets from other parties.
