a friend who PMed me on tradingview says his bitcointalk account is hacked. apparently the hacker deleted his staked bitcoin address (but he has the original link to the staked address post and the address is quoted ITT). i linked him to the account recovery thread.

my question -- i remember hearing that accounts were no longer being recovered. maybe i am remembering wrong. does anyone know? it's been a while since i've looked at Meta stuff. he's really bummed, its his Hero account and he is a longstanding member of the forum.

he said he can sign a message using the address from the deleted post (quoted in thread). is that good enough?

Accounts are still being recovered. Direct your friend to this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545

Whether he gets around to it or not is a different story. Most go unrecovered. But every now and again, he does review and sort it out.

Deleting a post won't matter as admins can still see them so it should be fine. However, accounts can take a long time to get recovered as there's only really one active admin at the moment and unfortunately for you account recover isn't a big priority.

In case it helps, my experience: when I got locked out of an account due to a hack, theymos helped me recover it pretty much right away.  When I lost the password to an account, theymos pretty much ignored my request.

theymos is very busy & if he does get back to your request it may take quite a while. You will need to have a lot of patience.

Sometimes the process might take very long or it can also be done very quickly if theymos has enough evidence.

Exactly. It totally depends on the evidence. If they can sign a message, if they have access to the original email on the account etc. It could still take months because honestly Theymos has a lot of other things to do. He really should be delegating the menial things to someone else.
