Their official announcement is here: https://blog.blocktrail.com/2016/07/blocktrail-is-now-a-part-of-the-bitmain-family/

But, I dont understand why BTC.com bought it! They already had a running block explorer.

I received an email this morning announcing the acquisition it read :
Dear Bitmain user,

We are pleased to inform you that Bitmain has acquired Amsterdam-based Blocktrail B.V., the company behind the Blocktrail bitcoin wallet.

In addition to the popular bitcoin wallet, Blocktrail is well known in the bitcoin space for its developers API and its block explorer. As part of the acquisition, Blocktrail's products, services and team will gradually be merged into BTC.com

With this acquisition, we will continue providing even better products and services to users of Bitmain and all its businesses.

Thank you for your continuous support.

Sincerely,

The Bitmain team

Blocktrail - BTC.com

"

The biggest part was the BTC.COM

I think that is why they bought it and they will start to push everything to BTC.com

This may bring positive things and positive feedbacks to bit main. This may entail or mean faster and efficient transactions coming from bitmain. Hope they will not disappoint us and they will provide much better services as they promised.

No, getting a popular block explorer will not do anything to the pool.

Blocktrail is quite a popular block explorer with a nice UI and lots of information. It's acquisition would probably promote bitmain as a company and the block explorer and wallet is really nice too.

Money. I don't think Blocktrail gives a shit to what Bitmain does with it now, I am sure they all made a nice profit.
Money for Blocktrail. But, how does it help BTC.com aka BitmainTech ? Why did Jihan spend money on it is question to me.

I would like to use blocktrail but I have become way too used to blockchain.info's nice layout... I would like that they fix the onion url those because I always get those annoying "out of quota" or something errors.

^^^ Warning!
This user is simply a shill account for the
'cloud mining' ponzi scam he promotes in
his signature.

Those are some unusual colours for BTC.com, are they Blocktrail's usual style or perhaps they have a new branding planned for it?

Even though they stated their going to improve after their recent acquisition, I think it will go the other way because that's what happening with all other brands being bought by others in the past, I know the fields are very different but just saying. Not sure how much profits were earned by Blocktrail over the years but surely it was worth Bitmain to acquire it after all because these kinds of move is all about money and at the end of the day it's just business. Anyone knows how much it cost them to acquire?

Well I don't know the specifics but companies usually y reduce their tax by reducing their profit. Investments that seem on the face of it to not be logical could be for this kind of reason. Time will tell if they have other plans.

Stop using onion's address for browsing blockchain.info and accessing its wallet. In this way your wallet identifier will get traced by one of the exit nodes. Then they will start their own brute-forcing to get back into your account.

No. Blockchain is a free and independent explorer and they didn't have any profit whatsoever in those years.
That's why "maybe" they are either leasing out their brand to Bitmain for some yearly income or sold them directly for a large sum.

Upcoming years will reveal what the actual intention was. As I know very well, they (Bitmain) already had their own blockchain previously.

They are probably trying to expand their brand.
And yeah I doubt it cost them much since what kind of profit would the website really have.
Didn't it have literally zero advertisements? The revenue would have been zero then.
Expect to see Bitmain advertising/ branding on the site or something to help them cover their operating costs.
