thebitcointalk.net is it a phishing site ?
bitcointalk.to  is it a phishing site ?

YES IT IS A PHISHING SITE

Designed to steal your login info !

A phishing site is a site set up by scammers that is made look like the real website that you think you are visiting.
When you log onto the fake phishing site it steals your username and password.

The scammer can then use your username and password to login to the real site and steal your account.

EDIT
Phishing site.

BitcoinTalk.org is the ONLY domain the forum has.

More information about scams here:

We are surrounded by legends on this forum. Phenomenal successes and catastrophic failures. Then there are the scams. This forum is a digital museum.

In that case there are a huge amount of "thebitcointalk.net" phishing links posted on bitcointalk.org

This may explain some of the hacked accounts.

Yep. If you try to login to this site, they will have your name and password. Maybe that's the reason why so many accounts are being hacked recently, maybe not.
Fortunately, this site is not very well positioned, nor in the Yahoo search engine, neither in Google, for the moment. You have to dig to find it.
Unfortunately, I've seen this site is recommended by mistake sometimes. One day I will try to create an account into it and see what happens. Have any of you already done that?

Recently there was created another fake site called:BitcointaLLk(notice it has two L instead of one). In there, they say they were satoshi and ask for some money promising to duplicate it. Some people were scammed, and they rob in total more than $300 ...
Probably, if digging, we will find some other sites like those two.

I try to create a new account on it and i can't register on there because the captcha is error(i already try in different browser too). Looks like that site just created only for stealing log in information.

I'm doing steam artwork.Official thread (Indo, but please pm me even if you're english speaker) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5323281

The same happens in the bitcointalk(.)to

what are they phishing?
Accounts?

"Phishing is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and money), often for malicious reasons, by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing

By cloning the BitcoinTalk forum and buying a similar domain, they are pretending to be the official forum (and possibly logging the username and password of those who try to login).

what are they phishing?

They are trying to make people think they are in Bitcointalk.org (here). When the people go to the pishing site, they try to sing-up by typing their usernames and their password from the original bitcointalk.org, so they steal their names and passwords and, by doing so, can easily hack their original BT`s accounts

I was imaging something like that, thanks for sharing. Of course this is difficult to know how many BT users try to get into there by mistake, by, given all the hackers accounts we have almost daily...

Thanks for your sharing. This will help many people not lose information to the bad guys. In the cryptocurrency market, there are a lot of scams to get people who do not have good information security knowledge.

This is a wake up call for us to  exercise caution when logging into our bitcointalk.org accounts, I narrowly escaped logging into one of the phishing sites account, the user interface looks very similar to this forum and this could probably be the major reasons why many accounts of unsuspecting forum members was hacked.

Particularly risky are the google links.

I accidentally posted some links once and one of the senior members on here did that recently as well.

You have to remain vigilant.

The bitcointalk.to has activated again. Made a post about it here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5122733.msg50240813#msg50240813

We need to report it to Google by submitting more reports! Link for reporting to Google provided in the thread.

Actually, they never been gone, this website always was active in recent years.
And I doubt that we can achieve something by reporting this website. In past already many Bitcointalk members had subimted reports about this phishing website, butvas you see it didn't helped, Bitcointalk.to still shown in Google search results.

I'll just quote myself here:

If you add the ".to" site to your hosts file, your browser will flat out refuse to open it. You can completely eliminate the risk of being phished by this site in <30 seconds. I'll quote myself below from the last time this was discussed with instruction on how to do so. Alternatively, if you are using Windows, your hosts file can be found in "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\".

See the following site for instructions on how to open your hosts file on Windows, Mac or Linux: https://support.rackspace.com/how-to/modify-your-hosts-file/

Add the following line to the bottom of your hosts file:
Code:
0.0.0.0 bitcointalk.to

 please see https://i.imgur.com/KRrNsHD.jpg
..i don't know why some people are trying to do phishing bitcointalk and steal the accounts of btt users,,we need to inform and warn everybody to be careful on logging in the information of our bitcointalk account and avoid having an access on this phishing site.. so that we will not come to the point of losing access on our account..
