So kickass torrents just got hijacked by LEA, I wondre if there is any blockchain project regarding the archieving of these magnets and addresses that can be preserved without LEA intervention.

Yes, it is possible to use the datacloud feature of NXT.

I actually have a nxt wallet and have used data cloud, but my big issue is how to host this from a regular site. Or how to search for the metada withing the Datacloud. So for example usually the info for a torrent can be simple, like just having the filename and the magnet or it can include a lot of metadata: Zoo S02E04 HDTV x264-LOL[ettv]
ettv - ExtraTorrent TV Shows Zoo.S02E04.HDTV.x264-LOL
[Duration]: 42mn 20s [Resolution]: 720 x 404 pixels
[Frame rate]: 23.976 fps
Category: tvepisodes Magnet Link So the issue is how can I get the series of Zoo, I guess we would need some sort of index, that can parse a structured dataset like a json and scrap it into a search interface.

You better go on the Nxtforum and ask people overthere that know how to use the Nxt API. I strongly recommand you do so, initially datacloud was designed for uploading torrent and magnet in mind. Nxt Datacloud could be the backbone of such a website.

nxt can host bittorrent files. only issue is the nxt fee required to do the upload.
now the question is what is the incentive for uploaders to pay a fee to give away files?
if there was a service or even a nxt whale to kickstart this movement by paying all the fees for uploaders, it can possibly go somewhere.

My biggest issue is accesibility, also I dont think you need a fee for each commit. I think you could do some sort of color coin/token that can handle many inserts in the transaction. But also an ICO that can get enough to land an advertiser and earn money from the advertising revenue, just like KAT. Maybe we can 'borrow' KAT advertisers, like VPN providers and such. I know something like that happens with other Torrent-like sites like EZTV.

Ok seems there is a plugin for torrents here: https://nxtforum.org/nxt-plugins/file-sharing-plugin-v0-2/But this only serves users of the NXT wallet. Which is also not a good idea. We want a site powered by Crypto, not a crypto wallet powered by torrents. I was thinking something more among the lines of http://coinsecrets.org/Sort of an explorer just for the OP_RETURN code content. If there was a public explorer for Data Cloud Torrent files then it will make sense. PD: Non really crypto related, but ZeroNet has ZeroTorrents, the UI is still not quite there yet, since it used the ZeroBoard app as a base, basically making it a BBS like this one, to just post the magnets, as opposed of a better more searchable site like Pirate Bay, EZTV or KAT. You need to have ZeroNet to be able to get in the network, but you can view the site through proxies: https://bit.no.com:43110/ZeroTorrent.bit

My opinion is that the foundation for a decentralized torrent data cloud is available with NXT. However, the structure and code to make a user friendly website remain to be built.
I belielve this won't be built by the Nxt devs, but the NXT API can be use and is available to build it.

So if you guys remember the OpenBay project, where Kickass also chip in. DBDump it had around 23M records. That ammount in NXT is around 560K USD.

So obviously there needs to be something to bridge the gap between listing torrents for free and listing torrents for a fee. the nxt torrent "search engine" is what has the ads that pays for the best torrents from the best voted uploaders a mix of kickstarter ,reddit, and blockchain explorer. Torrents get added to nxt if enough people vote them in/ agree to pay/ subscribe/ tip/

Or I dont think NXT is the best solution, since, even if the blockchain(DB) is uncensorable, still will be on a censorable website with a censosable domain in a centralized fashion. Steemit is a good example, where is a decentralized coin, but on a centralized Bulleting board. So in the end, I am not sure what.

Really probably nothing needs to be done.
Kickass going down means that there is a power vacumn.
Kickass was making millions? Someone will step in to start making those millions as hosting torrents is obviously quite lucrative.
Its like busting a drug dealer. The authorities stopped nothing. Maybe they disrupted some disruption but they didn't disrupt the demand. Someone will step in to fill the shoes of kickass, or the drug dealer as there is shitload of demand.
The drug copyright war is a failure.

this news was the worst thing i got for a long time but seeing this made me happy again. it would be awesome if such project could work well and without problem especially with no problem with DMCA which is always shutting down these torrents. This is a juicy thread.

What about SIA and syscoin storage facility? SIA mean to be decentralized storage and have heard that they have also successfully tested their platform. I think we need decentralized storage for all hosting and cloud storage needs.
