I newbie here, Hello, and having a problem.

I have 2 machines, and 3 cards, 1 6990 and 2 5970. Im hoping to get aother 5970 next week.

Problem is that on my new mothboard i am trying to get 2 cards working, I cant.

I can get either 5970 or the 6990 to work but the other card is not seen.

Now ive seen talk of dummy connectors, so my question is do i need a monitor or dummy connector on the 2nd card?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Operating system?

Windows, no dummy, no crossfire, all PCE-E power connected, use Catalyst 12.11beta, use GUIminer and you should see 2 cards.
