You predicted a crash on august and spends most of your time in altcoin boards, why the sudden change of stance?  IMO as long as you can buy certain ordinary things with an altcoin they can be considered money too. It's just bitcoin have wider adoption than any altcoin so it can be considered superior (in terms of adoption, other things can still be debated). |

IMO as long as you can buy certain ordinary things with an altcoin they can be considered money too. It's just bitcoin have wider adoption than any altcoin so it can be considered superior (in terms of adoption, other things can still be debated). Hahaha maybe OP altcoin investment is done. And now he wanted to encash Bitcoin. Btw, I agree that altcoin can be considered money too but mostly they act like a token. Some discount voucher / coin. Though both bitcoin and altcoin have application, trend at this point is developing an application then pairing it with some token / coin just to get fund. |

A majority of all crypto's value comes from speculation (like basically everything else in the economy) and thus trading is basically one of the only uses for a majority of altcoins. Ethereum is propped up by speculation but it also has some features which give it some value, but not as much as it does right now. Bitcoin is the best crypto for sending and holding money, no question. |

I guess at the moment, bitcoin and litecoins are the two that have a more reputation history. Eth is catching up but still just another coin. Problems and issues arises when you have a huge and ever growing number of users and only Bitcoin is the only that has gone through the hardship, improved and survived. Others are just lagging behind and learn from the experience and solution of bitcoin's growth.

I agree with you to some extent. BTC is indeed voluble and some people refuse to accept its progress. Some are scared to invest. However, BTC has survived several blows and will for the next decades. I believe BTC will soon be famous worldwide. Also, ETH is soon to overtake LTC. XDG is fading away and new CC are taking its place |

Frankly, it doesn't matter what legal definition is. You know what it can do, that is all. And it has every characteristic a real money should manifest. Classifying BTC as commodity is overthinking and is probably done from only one reason - to tax bitcoin even harder for example with VAT. |

I don't agree that other alt coins just complicate situation, its pretty fun to trade with them and gamble with some of them. ETH made a nice rise from nothing, now this coin worth 14 $. There will be similar coins, and rises in the future, I`m sure in that. People enjoy in all this when they figure it out, and learn few tricks.
With fact that there will be just limited amount of bitcoins I think its very possible for other alt coins to have some value. So btc is money but will it be enough of that money for everyone in this world to receive paycheck, for everyone to pay bills and to buy million other things. Alt coins will have some role in the future, which one is million dollar question.

It's not really just that they are more widely adopted, it is that it is more well known (which really isn't that well known to begin with). Cryptocurrencies are still a mystery to a lot of people, but some people can remember the "scary" things about it, and that it is associated with criminalized hackers and the spooky dark web... I mean the whole silk road scandal happened not that long ago... But it is forever in crypto years since it is such a new phenomenon. |

It is pretty amazing how fast it is rising now. I just checked it yesterday and it was $12 now it is $14 all the sudden? I should of bought a bit when I first saw it at $11 and just sit on it for a bit then sell it to make a little bit of money to buy bitcoin. |
