A big city that was already open to Bitcoin in some sort of capacity would likely benefit from a Bitcoin shop, but the one major caveat I can see is having a big enough population within the city that is actually something worth considering. A million people likely would lack the necessary quantities of people to run a business.

i agree but i also think that even smaller cities with smaller number of customers will still benefit from a bitcoin shop.
even if there is not enough people knowing about bitcoin there, this can help bring more people in.
Bitcoin shop in small city i think not a good idea, because maybe not anyone to be used transactions with bitcoin, but if only as an alternative payment I think it's a good.

bitcoin only would be confusing to many.  Would have to post signs all over the place.  But it would create awareness.

Well you gotta learn to crawl before you walk, creating/increasing awareness is actually all we need right now. Fingers crossed the time will come when the word "bitcoin" will be as easily recognizable as the name "Jesus".  Until then every little bit counts. We're progressing very slowly but we're getting there  Wink

Check out the link below (Google search trends for the word 'Bitcoin') for some interesting data, popularity, countries, associated search terms and more.

And what are the kind of clients are we targetting here? We must also consider the breed of the population in the area.
Are these guys techie enough to know how to use bitcoin? Is bitcoin accessible by everyone in the city in the first place?

The idea can be easily achieved but the only thing stopping it is the practicality, You can easily get bitcoin through exchanges and even on peer to peer transactions, There is no specific advantage in having a physical shop offering to buy/sell bitcoins because you can do that easily online.

usually very crowded big city with fashion shops. I think it's excellent if you open a clothing business.
I also had to have this plan. but I am constrained by capital.

Its a good tactic to spread BTC all over the world. I would support it. Its awareness would reach out many. At times, black money can be made white using BTC wallets and shops. I wish this should happen and the illegal currencies will circulated in the market. Economy booms up and countries will be free from depths.

Why would the users require that in the first place?, With exchanges offering the users to buy and sell bitcoins easily and at low profit margin, Can't see a reason for a physical shop at all though and even those preferring physical deals could do peer to peer/ BTC ATM's exchanges rather than a shop.

Lets be honest.
Until transaction times are under a minute, Bitcoin will never get widespread adoption for anything besides transactions on the web.
No one is going to wait 30 minutes to take their goods when they can use a credit card and get instant confirmation.
And most shop owners are not going to accept the risk of letting someone leave with goods before the payment is confirmed.

the Op has asked for big cities because in big cities often big investors start their markets and they are well educated while in smaller cities we often see shop keepers with smaller investment with lack of education having their smaller one room shops. They will not be able to adopt bitcoin for their smaller shops.

On the Internet found a store in your city, which already offers to buy things and pay bitcoin. Perhaps I will do right when looking to buy a phone with a digital currency. Though before I such operations have not yet spent.

It will definitely happen but not now as it will take some more struggle as we have to promote our bitcoin more and have to invite everyone to use bitcoin after that we will see everyone using bitcoin around us and we will see a lot of merchants around us accepting bitcoin.

I would like to go into a mall and buy bitcoin or bitcoin related products but depending on the laws in your country (or even locally) as a business owner you may be subject to getting financial license ect. that could make it difficult to make a profit.
Shop space alone can be expensive, never mind the ever changing regulations on what is considered to be money transmitting or how much it will take to get licensed to be one?

For the moment I'm ok with paying the 1% premium to buy/sell online through my bank account.
If I buy/sell in person my preference would be that it not be so documented, or let's just say less formal than a documented transaction.

P.S.
I'd like to see bitcoin shops everywhere for awhile until the novelty wears off and we are using it everyday for everything...
like the digital cash that it is ;-)

Opening any shops in the big cities only for BTC without people knowing what BTC is ....
I think it's only time wasted and not give help.
Like an Apple Shop this will be a "mono brand service... We are not talking about a "service" but about a new currency a new way to think about economy.
Why not create an "embassy" a place where people could get info about btc and get their first wallet etc etc?
This could be an idea for local Btc foundation meet-up (maybe)....

With bitcoin sound like a waste of time but for sure an altcoin with a better block time can be a solution, well, not exactly a solution but it can raise the technology to more people.

Definitely i would buy bitcoins from these shops or stores when price is low and sell when it increases, and yeah it will give us advantage and also useful for the awareness of bitcoin. After seeing these shops more people are aware of bitcoin and start using bitcoin and may be more shops are open where bitcoin is used as direct payment method and we can buy products using bitcoins.

Agree the only thing is if the bitcoin is famous then lot of stores pop up that accepts bitcoin as payments. Merchants is depending on the trending and the demand of the product so if lot  users or lot are using bitcoin then they are force to try accept bitcoin as payment. Lets hope that in the future lot of shops accepts bitcoin as payment

Hey Guys,

what would be your opinion if there would been Bitcoin shops in big cities like London, Berlin or Paris (also smaller cities).
So you could go inside the shop and buy or sell Bitcoin for a good price.

I think it would be an good (and an advantage) idea because more people would use Bitcoin so the price would rise up and the people who are owning Bitcoins at the moment would have more money in Bitcoins. Wink

Best regards,

Patrick Smiley
Well i do not like this idea. You can buy and sell your bitcoin directly by meeting somepeople or just contact them from online markeplace. It is waste of time if someone decide to open a bitcoin shop.
