Just read this: http://pedroshotel.com/bitcoin/

He says “With Bitcoin we will be able to lower our transaction cost. It’s perfectly suited to our type of business where nearly all of our reservations are taken online or over the phone.”

How can you send BTC over the phone?

I am not talking about an app, I am talking about a regular old-fashioned phone call.

Reciting a Bitcoin address over the phone would be ridiculous.

There is an opportunity here for an entrepreneur to get in on this. Make a solution! (possibly binding addresses to phone numbers?)

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Cool idea. The best would be a vanity address.. quicker to quote over the phone.

I have... some experience with this. "The number one. N as in Nevada. I as in internet. M as in monster. D as in dinosaur."

Terrible. Especially once I found out, over the phone, that blockchain.info and firstbits.com were both down.

Google Voice, and some other VoIP providers that may offer SMS via web/email.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

An address shortener like btc.to or qcl.me could help.

It's possible to make an app that lets you send Bitcoins through SMS by using an API such as Twilo.

To do this in secure and Bitcoin way, the person needs to send exact amount of coins to newly generated address. No need to wait for confirmations. Then call the phone, dictate private key using NATO phonetic alphabet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet and the other party can reclaim the coins with that address and send to safer address under recipient control.

Or do it more geeky way. Dig out 56k dial-up modem and send coins using Satoshi client. But I think it wont work now because as I remember I could only get about 1.1kb/s speed using 56k modem. Cannot test it right now because I don't have wired phone line anymore.
