So i was reading an article about someone who got robbed when he tried to buy in person 28000$ of Bitcoin
http://www.coindesk.com/florida-bitcoin-sale-knifepoint-robbery/
Personally i avoid dealings like this cause it is not easy to trust a random stranger.
How about you?do you buy or sell bitcoins in person? If yes have you ever had any bad experiences?
The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

Yes, if you can't sell it in-person then sell it online, still have risk and all.

I have done few personal face to face dealing but those are not with strangers. I first start to meet with the guys who are crypto traders and quickly become friend than only i feel easy to do cash deals. But most of the times local online payment processor had become easy and secure for me.

You should do those transactions in a public place. That will reduce the risk of being robbed. I would also be careful about buying that much at one time. Maybe buy only 1 or 2 bitcoins at a time.

Sorry to hear that news, Why meet personally when he can buy on exchanges? Or when he buy on one on one meeting, why not select a safe place? Transact with a friend, brother or any trusted person. Why bring cash if he can pay through a check? there are many options.

well that reason is indeed could threaten you when doing offline transaction, in offline you'll maybe risking your life by meeting with stranger but in online you're risking your funds, but you can still avoid this by preparing any possibilities and protection

Lesson learned. If you're doing a trade in real life, good for you. In fact, this is the way to minimise the risk. Getting mugged like that is one of the biggest concerns.

This is why you trade in a public place, in plain sight of others, like Macdonalds.

The reason to buy with cash is of course to not let a trail at a bank.

Buying 28000$ in one time is stupid though.

How about you?do you buy or sell bitcoins in person? If yes have you ever had any bad experiences?

I think that the seller should go on a safe place where there are many cameras and there are bodyguards on that store/market/restaurant or whatever place. Such a large amount to deal in person is very dangerous not in Florida in this case but everywhere in the world because it's all on cash.

There's danger in selling and buying. How many other times in your life do you arrange to meet a total stranger who knows you'll have a large amount of money on you?

Not all that often i reckon. It's a little bit of amateur hour that could do with being left behind.

Most police departments allow you to do exchanges of value there. Just call ahead and ask. Police want us to trade as safely as possible. If it's a large amount of value being traded, call ahead and ask for a time where an officer can be present to observe in case there are any shenanigans.

Also, its good to trade value at any public place in front of witnesses and cameras. At a mall security office, internet coffee shops, internet cafes, fast food restaurants, convenience store or gas station parking lots, big box retailer, etc.

I will never buy bitcoins in person and that`s the main reason.I don`t want to be robbed.

Buying/Selling bitcoins online is way more safer, desprite all the risks of scam.

That guy must have been very naive. Sad

it is better to selling online instead of offline that is physically. because it is difficult to trust  stranger .or you should take person intermediate between you and him like middle man agent.

Maybe that is true, but almost anytime anywhere you don't announce to a stranger that you are going to that specific spot with 28k in cash on you... That is just asking for trouble.

If you go with 30k cash to a car dealership, you don't post on facebook that you are carrying that amount of cash from your home to dealer X. That is also asking for trouble.

It may not be bitcoin directly responsible for this, but it sure was the means to start the trade and risk bringing a huge amount of cash.

these cases are most of the time the person's fault for doing the trade in a bad place. for example i remember reading another time about this about a guy who was robbed at gunpoint i think it was in NewYork. he has gone up to the robbers cars parked in an alley, it is obvious you are gonna get mugged!
