Back in 1789 the Constitution came into force. The United States had already been set in place through the Articles of Confederation. But the AoC didn't have any strength. Why did the people need strength? They needed it mostly to fight Great Britain and her allies at that time.

In other words, the United States was formed to protect the people. And everybody knows that the best defense is a great offense.

Since the USA government was created to protect the people, it has to have someone to protect the people from. It can't protect the people if there isn't anyone around trying to harm the people. Therefore, to justify its existence, it goes out and makes enemies for the people, just to protect the people from these enemies. And most of the people don't even realize what is going on.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you live in a non-desirable area ? Vancouver housing prices being what they are, you're fortunate the landlord didn't run the clock out on your lease, and raise the prices.

How is the nomenclature of cities relevant to anything ? This is an absurdist point to make. I imagine the Chinese want to come to the Canadian one due to better social services, and a more established Chinese community.
