April fool, but, why the heck not, how many government currencies do we have - many many, yen, euro, dollar, gbp, why not 3 or 4 major crypto currencies ?

I agree on the points about try and bring some innovation to the game, will help it become a major.

I really like the logo, as good as bitcoins, if not better

How about change the white font to silver ?

So thinking about some of the earlier statements, along lines of 'CPU mining again..' Etc..so how would you prevent the GPU/FPGU & ASICs from jumping in and ramping the difficulty up quickly ? Trolling aside / April fools aside wouldn't this be a stumbling block ( excuse the pun ) ?

Indeed. What solution would you propose if you was in my situation?

It seems pretty obvious to me that actions like this are undermining the value of BTC, or at least, have the potential to.

Ask yourself this: What advantage does this have over BTC?

The answer is, of course, none. The advantage BTC has over this is that BTC was created first, which means it has had more time to be adopted, which means, unless somebody can create something actually SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER, it is the cryptocurrency everybody should be supporting.

Rather than trying to pass off your own cryptocurrency, essentially attempting to print more BTC, and make a few bucks if you are lucky and in the process undermine the public's view of cryptocurrencies in general, you might try to make a few bucks by buying BTC and supporting it in general. At least that way you can claim to be doing something constructive.

Ok. You are forgetting about the fact the in between Me and Satoshi we have 3.5 Million BTC.

Bytecoin is a fresh start, this time everybody will be able to participate, fairly, from the beginning.

Swell.

1) How does that matter in the slightest, it just makes you even dumber from undermining something you so obviously have a good investment in and
2) Obviously you are trolling. Well. Unless Satoshi owns like 3.4999999 million of that.

Everybody already could participate fairly from the beginning. The difference? They didn't, because they CHOSE not to, or because they weren't EDUCATED enough to know that they should. Sort of like me, and notably, you. The difference is that unlike you, I am willing to accept that there were people smarter/luckier than I that recognized/guessed that BTC was going to be a success and got in when they could, and thus deservedly made a lot of money. You on the other hand, aren't.

There is no point to a 'bytecoin' if it is going to be the same as bitcoin. Unless, one believes that having the choice of two major cryptos is good, well for having a choice sake. One could argue that spreading the wealth you have in crypto between two, is good for risk reasons, like not relying on one bank. However, if they are identical it's likely that any issue to one ( like a hack ) is likely to be done to both.

As has been mentioned above, bytecoin has to be an improvement in some way, perhaps even a few slight improvements would suffice.

I recommend a quick read on this post:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=10666.0

Hope it clears up some of the confusion on what and why bytecoin is happening.

Sure.  Of those, you have probably 100, Satoshi has the rest.  Unless you can prove it of course (hint, we all know you can't)

If I were a newbie coiner I would join Bytecoin coz most of bitcoins already distributed among a few ppl and this seems to be unfair. I won't be surprised if Bytecoin get much more followers within 6 months. Yes, at the very beginning Bytecoin will be vulnerable to 51% attack, so I advise not to transfer coins but only mine them until we get enough hashing power.

I'll even stamp t-shirts, caps, mugs...  Cheesy
If this fails, maybe it would be better to use "_ _ _ _ Coin" so it can be use for all upcoming alternative currencies.

I like the idea of ByteCoin. Why we cant download the client now? And how big difficulty will be for block 1?

Hello,
I'm Bryan, a member of the Bytecoin project.

To prove that you aren't currently pre-mining a longer chain for your own enrichment, you need to do like Satoshi did and anchor your new genesis block in time. Satoshi did this by hard-coding a newspaper headline into his genesis block, so that a longer block chain could not have been pre-mined prior to launch. What's your plan?
We are currently mining it, but just for testing purposes. We will change the genesis block (and therefore start from block 0) at launch date using something like you described to prove that we didn't start before.
The client will be available for download on April 1st (No fools here) and the source code will be on Github, we are setting up a pool if you don't want to mess with solo mining.

Keep posted for more information!
