Hey guys, I am wondering what mining software should I use for the S7 antminer. And also, can I use the antminer for a different cryptocurrency or is it programmed for bitcoin. Thanks.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

S7 has built in cgminer so no special software is needed.  It is sha256 based hardware so you can use it on other SHA256 coins!

Okay thank you. Do you think it is necessary to join a mining pool or is solo fine as well. Does cgminer allow solo mining?

You really would want to join a pool as that way you will get payment's that are more constant. But today joining a pool is very easy and with S7 kinda plug and chug.

If you do solo mine with one S7 it is more of a "lotto mining" and chances are you will never hit a block, so no payment.   If you do want to solo mine I would use a pool already setup vs having to set one up.  You can go over to Antpool and set your worker to solo, so you can solo there if you want.   Or take a look at ckpool for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.0 is another good option.

Thanks, the thing is, is that I have a lot of people investing their money into this, so I will have a lot of miners on hand.

It's a decent pool. You should compare other ones to make sure it matches what you're trying to do.
Pools have different payout structures and fees you should consider.

I've used the pool in the past and it worked fine (back when blocks were only 70bil ;-;) But I now mine on CKpool. It's up to you, though- the S7's are still good machines, and quite a few people on here have hit blocks with them iirc.

One suggestion, though- choose a pool with a decent hashrate. Pools with lower hashrates do not hit blocks as often and pay will be slightly lower in most cases.

slush pool pays out better than average when they are having a block party(more hashrate/blocks than usual)....something that you won't experience running pps through f2pool or antpool.

But when slush has a bad day you will make less than average...

such is the nature of the beast
