Is Bitcoin still considered shady in the public opinion or government opinion? From 2011: It's not a secret CIA dudes read this forum. I tried for long time to keep my nationality obscured but eventually I've blown it.
I've also found out that Romanian Intelligence Service keeps noting on Romanians that use Bitcoin. Not for the security of the state but for personal reasons. Please note that in Romania, a country with 22.000.000 people there are officially 200.000 mobile phone taps.

I think people like us speaking up about cryptocurrencies in general (don't have to necessarily mention Bitcoin if you are just explaining the concept), will greatly help the widespread adoption of the concept.

Of course, I often suggest people to use btc whenever we get into that kind of business talk and also when talking about earning some nice pocket money. Why would I keep quiet about it?
|
Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

It depends on the context of the conversation and who its with..
But a random stranger? I rather just not, but sometimes it slips and usually ends up them getting them to know wanting to more about it?
I just say go google it and then they hit me back up cause people still are very new to it.

well I'll tell people if they're interested although here from where I'm at bitcoin is not that known yet by a lot of people. so if someone asks about it I don't have any reason not to tell them. bit coin is not illegal here anyways

Only to my friend and my family. They asked me how I have money because I have no job and then I told them about signature campaign and bitcoin. They were all amazed and wonder how could it happen. When I showed it to them they were like okay it is only for people with brains. They love the idea but would not want to try it as they sees it as complicated.

It's not considered shady, it's just got stereotypes associating it with nerds, Libertarians, or both.

Of course, I do. Why shouldn't I? There's nothing to be ashamed of. Then, all my friends know I'm somewhat special with a different lifestyle and political beliefs, so BTC fits me quite well.

Sometimes I'm telling to my friends that I use bitcoin. I'm trying to explain them how it works, why bitcoin is good. But mostly are not interested in bitcoin. And mostly mid-age people hardly can understand what is bitcoin and think that it's something shady.

I think it's a "Nerd" technology and not all using this form of payment for "black" purpose like selling drugs , weapons etc...
