Stealing this list for my school.

Wink Hope to get some Nanos / Quarter Sticks for students to work on.

I know this a lot to ask but could you do a few videos on your build? That would be awesome for our students here at school.

never did a video before. i would totally suck!
I'll make one, if you do the video editing. Cut out all the boring crap
make it interesting.

Hehehe... deal... how you going to upload it to me?

I can have kids work on that as well.

Hopefully one of the group buyers is going to send you a few sample chips.
I wish I had bought extra ASIC's so I could build 1 or 2 of "Quarter Stick"
Thanks for being so open with your design.

We'll figure it out when the time comes.

BTW, if you are setting up a group to build these, there are some things that can be shared.
That will cut down on overall costs. The most important thing where each individual should have there own
is a very nice pair of curved tweezers. Not just any tweezers, but good ones like I put in the DIY Setup thread.

Project update:

So, I don't follow the threads as closely as I used too. Any Avalon sample chips available out there yet?

The PCB is pretty much finished other than a few more tweaks here and there maybe and some adjustments on the top silk layer. I haven't pulled the trigger yet on a PCB order because I would like feedback if there is any expertise out there. The design definitely wouldn't be where it is today without some of the suggestions and feedback I've received (mostly by email).

Here are all the project files to date:

As soon as I get wind of the Avalon chips shipping then i will rush the order on this ASAP. Hopefully, if there are any bugs left, we can catch it before then.

I have two Avalon samples committed to this project. Big thank you to SebastianJu.

I'm still looking for 8 more Sample chip donations that ship before the bulk orders do.
I plan on a initial order of 10 boards. If you have made a bulk chip order, please
consider a few Sample chips donation this way.
Thanks.

One thing I noticed on your schematic rev 0.3 R12 connected to lead 7 on the ASIC this part should be a magnetic bead it's an inductor. The one used on the Avalon board has 30 ohm resistance at 100MHZ it's probably .2 or .3 ohm at DC.

Good Catch! thanks. I could not figure out what those "MB" resistors were all about. I guess I should have checked the BOM after they updated it.

Sorry I gave you the wrong specification for the Avalon board it is 60 ohm at 100MHZ.  I would go with something 60 to 200 ohm at 100MHZ. Also I would consider using a Schmitt trigger buffer on the report n and report p because they are wire OR and the rising edge is slow. This will only be a problem when both report signals go high at the same time (idle) it might cause the NOR gate to send several clock pulses. You might be able to work around this in software because the nonce should have all ready been transferred when the ASIC goes idle. The communications protocol information was a little sparse so this could be wrong.

This one should work fine:
http://au.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ABRACON/ACML-0402H-750-T/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtoiMfofRG0LSMefMivMbzvCYz%252b0wYmZAM%3d

The serial clock input to the PIC should be Schmitt trigger. Hopefully, with the RC delay setup, any potential spikes coming out of the NOR gate will not be seen by the PIC.
What do you think? It is one aspect of the design i do worry about a little. Won't really know how good of a solution we have until we get to try it out.

The MB part from mouser 75 ohm at 100mhz and .2 ohm at DC looks like a good choice. Thinking a little more about the protocol I don't think we have to worry about both reports going high at the same time because the ASIC will be sending a 1 or 0 then go idle.

Hopefully the rising edge on the report signals is not to slow causing spikes that can't be filtered with the RC network. I guess the pull up's could be made a little stronger if necessary. With only one chip hopefully it's a non issue.

Hi allten,

I would like to ask for your opinion on BFL offer we got today at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=223571 .

They are willing to sell us (as GroupBuy) advanced 65 nm chips (4 GH/s per piece) on 100% escrow (John K.), on-time-or-deal-is-off policy.

Is developing and producing mining boards capable of running those chips more challenging than for Avalon's 110 nm ones? Would you be interested? (Avalon boards are surely to stay the top priority.)

Since, I'm refining the deal right now, I can use any suggestions about documentation, sample chips etc. I should require for you/other developers as part of the deal.

Thank you.

It's funny how Yifu is your go-to-source for opinions when he is BFL's direct competitor. It's like asking Mcdonald's CEO what he thinks of the Whopper.

I like Yifu very much, he is a great man and a very capable entrepreneur. But I have to agree with PeZ on this one.

I'm sorry for the OT. Let's keep this thread an Avalon board project. (Until maybe allten says otherwise. Cheesy )

Thank you.

Dude, please stop spamming the message threads with this question! If you really want to check with the designer of a specific project concerning their interest in designing a board to support BFL chips, a PM is clearly a better choice.

I'm not looking through an Avalon thread because I want to see same tired post advertising your BFL group buy.

Cross-post in all threads of projects that are registered for Avalon sample chips from my order.

Delivery of sample chips seems to have started.

If you have chips ordered with me that you want to support this project with, do it now.

If you are the owner of this project, please provide me your shipping address.

Find the details here.

Sounds like the competition for the sample chips is tight. Hopefully a few make it my way.

Here is a very simple mounting tool that I think would enable any clumsy idiot like myself to do smt mounting.

zefir will most probably send allten 2 chips for his tests. We shared the samples a bit through the developers to optimize it.

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.
