Euro is more suitable than USD for illegal activities. Since there are 500euro papers which hold a lotmore value than 100$. To answer your question, of course it is being used for illegal activities. It doesn't make USD guilty. USD is the most common currency around the world, thw most liquid... That's why terrorists choose USD over everything else.
Crime originated from The mind of man and not currencies! Currencies either USD, GPB, Bitcoin and even eth are not the cause of Criminality but evil thoughts from the mind of men. Any currency are being used for illegal action, many are saying bitcoin is being used to fund terrorism because of it decentralized nature and op is now saying USD is being used for illegal activities. Indeed true, saying currency as convict for crime is not justified. It is not that person is doing crime with baseball bat because it is sold for USD. I live in India, me buying baseball ball with rupee will be justified?  I don't think, currency will be affected in any way due to its illegal use till it is fiat currency of country. However, conservatives might try banning anonymous currencies like Bitcoin on the name of crime!  |

It doesn't matter currency form to do such activities. I believe currency is just something which has value and rights to buy something of equal value/weightage. Currency no matter is USD or any other form it can buy those things it's just where are you standing on earth whether is it east side or west side of hemisphere. Each form of currency can be traded anywhere. One can buy things with euro or inr or usd in any country as there are hundreds of ways to do it. So in my opinion it is not the only which is illegal or does it only the one which we can put finger on  |

Will this hurt USD in the long run? Will governments ban this just like they started to do with paying in cash for some services to harden the use of illegal activities, and money laundering?
I think criminal activity will not hurt USD in the long run. It may even strengthen it as it creates demand for the currency. If governments find a way to curb the use of their national currency in illegal activities, they will do it. |

is not only the dollar but all currencies fiat. I think all currency it is used for illegal activities.. see every country must have the mafia ? All of the fiat or even the cryptocurrency are being used or can be used in doing illegal activities because they are money and money can be use everywhere and especially in bitcoin because of its anonymity feature then it is being abused by the criminals and using it as another layer of their security and that is how the image of bitcoin is getting worse just because of the criminals. |

There are a lot of posts in this thread saying that Bitcoin is being used for illegal activities because it provides anonymity, but in fact if you are not paying with Credit Card and use some other precautions cash provides you more anonymity than Bitcoin does. So yes, USD being used and will always be used for illegal activities, like any other cash.
And I agree that the journalists emphasizing that Bitcoin is being used for illegal activities are just showing their incompetence.

i think it's very possible, teroris have highest technology to mixing his money at bank without any trail, and untraceble. i think people can buy anything use usd, the illegal activity with usd is very possible

The fiat currencies are more used then crypto coins, even knowing the silk road keeps with some good volume and they work with altcoins at their deals. There is no way to control and stop those ilegal activities, because you can put into the jaill all people selling, others will replace them since there are buyers.

Volumes of SilkRoad back then, and the current black markets using Bitcoin and other crypto's as currency, isn't even a tiny dot compared to what level of harm is being done with the USD for example. It's basically an unfair comparison as there isn't anything to compare. But as always, the media knows how to put a twist to it, that Bitcoin is the one that receives the general blame among non Bitcoiners.... |
