I downloaded some months ago a wallet that allowed to set up the first letters of an address, but I can't recall the name, can somebody help me? Also another question: is it possible to import that address into another wallet? The thing is, I would like to set up a custom address, but then I would like to use another wallet, because I didn't like that wallet at that time at least, because it had some glitches and spell errors.

Sure, you only need the private key of your address. Most wallets allow to import private keys easily. You could also use a vanity address generator to determine the first letters for your address. You'll find the software for Win, Linux and Mac on https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen

You can find the services like set the custom address with the payable of bitcoins for that. To sweep or import your wallet to some other You need the wallet's private key and sweep to the desired another wallet and keep your wallet.dat as safe.

I've read quite some pages from Reddit and other sources, seems the whole thing is giving away your keys somehow. I won't even try the online services... tried one with 6 letters and email came after few minutes, so funny.

Are you sure those reviews weren't talking about sites like bitcoinvanitygen (.com => don't go there!!!)? Those sites are a bad idear indeed, because they actually know your private key, so they could potentially steal all BTC stored on this addres if they wanted to. vanitygen.exe is a binary that is developed by a guy from this forum ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0). I haven't read all 150 pages of his announcement thread, but i've followed it from a distance. I've never read any accusation agains him or his tool, and i'm sure it has been used with great success by many promininent members of this community. I'm pretty sure dozens of developers have already gone trough his complete sourcecode and AFAIK, didn't find any problems. It's open source, you can download the sourcecode, read everything, compile it on a clean linux box, unplug the box, generate your address and format the box...

https://www.bitaddress.org has got a Vanity wallet feature too, but I have never used it before. I prefer to use normal single address generated addresses being done on a offline computer. Download the script from Github or you can save the whole site to your desktop and then copy it to another offline computer. ^smile^

Download the script from Github or you can save the whole site to your desktop and then copy it to another offline computer. ^smile^ I think the vanity key portion of bitaddress can be used to generate a split key... You generate the a split private and public key, send the public one to somebody who has a lot of CPU or GPU power. This person uses vanitygen (or oclvanitygen) to calculate the other part of the key and sends it back to you... You then enter both the part you generated yourself (and kept private) and the part you got from the person who calculated the second part, and end up with a final private key. Altough the complete theory is a bit much for me, this method should allow you to use a thirth party to generate a vanity address for you without him/her knowing your complete private key (so this method should be safe). Shorena uses this method for his/her service (AFAIK)

do you have any reference link for these things that you are saying? you may be using a wrong link to download the source code/exe or the program and as for your second comment are you using an online vanity gen creator? refer to this topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0and this wiki: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygenand this source code: https://github.com/samr7/vanitygennowhere else. p.s. using a third party website can also be safe as long as you use a split key method.
