I think they or we are only around 2 million because we were open to adventure and opportunities.  Some people were too afraid to venture on this kind of currency.  They are too cautious and do not want to be scammed.  But who would want their money to be wasted.  It is just maybe it was not considered as a legal currency by the government.

Can't predict it accurately how much people are really using bitcoin because one can have multiple bitcoin addresses, but I think there are 2 million people using bitcoin in the world. I think it since mostly but not all sites, registered users on an investment site, trading site, and so on is always near 2 million, with an average of 1.5 million users signed up, and assuming that 1/4 of the users in the world don't do investment, trading and so on and just use bitcoin for transaction, I came up with that amount.

It's interesting that Blockchain.info says they have 9 million wallets.

Coinbase seem to indicate something like 3 million users.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3p3k16/coinbase_hits_27_million_users/

No sources, so it's not in the OP yet.

The difference between Blockchain & Coinbase is regulation. A single person on Blockchain.info can have multiple accounts, without any

real problems, but on Coinbase they have to be verified to adhere to the KYC/AML regulations... so Coinbase in my opinion, would be a

more accurate figure, based on a specific region/country. This is not a easy task OP, because we cannot get accurate stats from the

sites.  Roll Eyes

it was expected to see blockchain.info have a lot more users than coinbase since coinbase is only operating and useful in some countries and also it has a lot of rules to follow and if that was not enough they control the private keys also!

and about India i have to say that i always though India was one of those countries that announced bitcoin as illegal but seeing this article in OP and also a quit google search seems like they are in fact using bitcoin a lot!

India has more than one million bitcoin users? I can't believe it is true, I seldom see Indians in the forum. Maybe 100k is max, it is my estimation.

The whole world has one million users, BCT forum even has less than 1 million accounts, exclude those multiple accoints and never posts account, real bitcoin users here are less than 500k

I'd go with 2 - 5 million. I've read an article saying there are now more than 10 million wallets. This doesn't really say much because as we all know, any single person could/probably have multiple wallets.
What really caught my attention was the number of transactions, according to the statistic of the transaction volume, 'the number of transactions has grown roughly 80,000 a day to more than 200,000'. That's more than double from last year.

May be around 2-3 million but how to calculate that number? I haven't heard any tools from which bitcoin total users can be calculated on real time or never even heard about tools to measure number of bitcoin address generated.

there might be even less regular users in my opinion, there are a lot of holders but not users unfortunately

I would assume there is something like 2-3 million people using Bitcoin daily, maybe a few thousand to a few ten-thousands of people using it at any one time, and maybe something like ~5 million people with some money in it in some way.

That's just a really rough estimate that doesn't really have any specific data to back it up, but I think those are probably decent numbers considering the community.

You can't, too difficult for making tools for that, and you're just trying for calculating about the total of bitcoins is just like impossible things considering if someone is having more than 1 wallet for storing their money, and you're just able for calculating with the try for using a sample.

That Indian article is the first time I've ever seen any mention of Bitcoin getting anywhere there, er, ever. How did 1 million users suddenly arrive?

India has one of the biggest populations in the world. They also have really crap banking infrastructure. I tried to do a project in India 10 years ago. The closest thing to banking infrastructure was the postal service, which is basically a network of poor couriers walking around villages.

Now with smart phones and increasing use of wifi, the banking system will find it can easily be overtaken by Bitcoin.

The middle classes of India alone have the potential to generate more Bitcoin users than the population of America. It will happen, soon (tm). Well, maybe.

Could be. They love technology. Many smartphone app developer are Indian and also android hackers.  Grin
Even with a small amount per Indian can make a blast in bitcoin economy if they do it in numbers. Imagine every single person in them having an amount of .1 btc, that is a lot for 5 million users.

Doing an estimate is pretty hard because there's no real number that can quantify how many users there are. Even transaction counts can't be a guide on how many actual users there are. But back here where I live, I can almost tell you that there are not a lot of people using it. Because if there was, there would at least be some news that concerns bitcoin coming out of the TV or newspaper.

I believe a maximum of 1.2 million. Of course, many people have several addresses, and some have dozens of addresses. Even the average bitcoin user will probably have an address associated with an exchange, one that operates as a current account, one as cold storage, and so on, and so on. Not all of those will have coins in at any given time. Many have tiny amounts that the owner has forgotten about. So whilst it’s hard to say, I’d estimate that between half and three quarters of a million people is reasonable ballpark range. It’s worth remembering that this is a snapshot of the blockchain. There may be other people who have owned bitcoins in the last week or month, and can be classed as active bitcoiners, but who didn’t own any right at that moment.

I don't there is a valid data can bring us into the bright answer about the population is a real bitcoiners, because considering a lot of factor just like a few address is just own by someone, and another factor is can determine if there is no a valid reason for saying about the population of bitcoiners and so for the speculation just making a surveys with sample but that is also can't be a valid researching too.

I think people using bitcoin is still less than 2 million. Bitcoin now is progressing more users than the previous year but still not too popular. If you see already have tens of millions bitcoin bitcoin wallet for many users who use more than one wallet and it could not be used as a benchmark. I hope bitcoin will evolve so that we are all easy to use bitcoin for daily needs.

If you look at the concentration of the nodes, it does indicate that North America have the highest amount of Bitcoin nodes, so if you extrapolate a ratio of nodes:users I would have to agree with you. The cheap internet and the availability of the infrastructure just make USA more conducive for Bitcoin adoption and use.

I think Japan would soon over take China as the Bitcoin hub of the East. ^hmmmm^
