We shouldn't be counting bitcoin users by stuff like known bitcoin addresses & blockchain.info wallets. People have multiple addresses & wallets across multiple platforms.
I'm not basing it on anything other than an educated guess but I'd be surprised if there were more than 2 million individuals currently involved in bitcoin (holding coins or whatever).

The guessing / wisdom of the crowd can usually predict the right answer. I think there is some actual research on this, something to do with guessing how many jelly beans there are in a jar. By removing outliers and averaging out the rest, people tend to get the right answer.

* India Counts over 1 Million Bitcoin Users * Blockchain.info counts nearly 10m wallet users (some of those 1 million Indian users might have wallets on Blockchain.info; and some others might have multiple wallets on there) * Some research says there are less than 5m active users and it won't go over that number until 2020
all of the above are right and wrong at the same time it is because you can never measure the number of people "using" bitcoin because it is decentralized, there is no bank to watch how many "people" are using it unless everybody come forward and identify themselves. what all these statistics show is somehow related to bitcoin blockchain analysis so it is only showing how many addresses or transactions have been used. besides I believe that majority of Indian users and many others are only using bitcoin as dust-money-earning through methods like using faucets so I wouldn't really count those.

I am just guess about it, i think 2 to 5 million people are using bitcoin, but i have no any idea, i am just guess it, because i know we can only predict about it. But after 5 years, bitcoin would be achieved more places, because now bitcoin has started in successful way, and day to day people know about it and the number of its users is increasing.

Can't predict it accurately how much people are really using bitcoin because one can have multiple bitcoin addresses, but I think there are 2 million people using bitcoin in the world. I think it since mostly but not all sites, registered users on an investment site, trading site, and so on is always near 2 million, with an average of 1.5 million users signed up, and assuming that 1/4 of the users in the world don't do investment, trading and so on and just use bitcoin for transaction, I came up with that amount.

It's interesting that Blockchain.info says they have 9 million wallets. Coinbase seem to indicate something like 3 million users. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3p3k16/coinbase_hits_27_million_users/No sources, so it's not in the OP yet.

I will pick the reasearchers opinion. Below 5m is ehat I see those 10m from blockchain could be 5 accounts for 1 user or let us just say 3 accounts per user. Consider also the registrees which just did it but didnt continue.

There isnt really a way to count accurately how many people are using bitcoins. Most of the data on the web is from surveys and other unreliable source so its not exact. About the india thing i really doubt 1 Million people use bitcoin, i am from india and there are really very less people who use know even less who even know about it.

I have voted for 5 to 15 million but i am quite sure it is not more than 10 million. However i don't think there are any aspect from which total bitcoin users can be calculated like even when total number from all bitcoin wallets were added some users may use multiple wallet service and calculating total number of bitcoin address generated will give even false result.

India has one of the biggest populations in the world. They also have really crap banking infrastructure. I tried to do a project in India 10 years ago. The closest thing to banking infrastructure was the postal service, which is basically a network of poor couriers walking around villages. Now with smart phones and increasing use of wifi, the banking system will find it can easily be overtaken by Bitcoin. The middle classes of India alone have the potential to generate more Bitcoin users than the population of America. It will happen, soon (tm). Well, maybe.

The difference between Blockchain & Coinbase is regulation. A single person on Blockchain.info can have multiple accounts, without any real problems, but on Coinbase they have to be verified to adhere to the KYC/AML regulations... so Coinbase in my opinion, would be a more accurate figure, based on a specific region/country. This is not a easy task OP, because we cannot get accurate stats from the sites.
