Sometimes the news events in themselves don't warrant a particular move but they cause a movement just large enough to act as a catalyst for traders to think that some indicators have crossed and it's time for the next big move out of a coiled up area. The markets go by the same rule: Buy on the rumor, sell on the news.
However, I didn't see anything big on the market in the last 2 days. There was a 8$ rise 3 days ago, 5$ fallback 1 day later and that's it.
The market is not thrilled by this news and then I don't see how this could lead an "explosion" to 1000+.

I think it's a wrong assumption to believe many people will sell when $1000 is reached.
Why should they? Because they may have reached break even then, and leave without a profit?
Only the dumb ones will do so, who still have no idea why they invested in Bitcoin at the top and still are clueless about what potential Bitcoin is having.
These guys will cry when Bitcoin reaches $2000 and even more per coin in the future.
Furthermore I'm sure we can see the $1000+in the next coming 6-8 months.It won't take years if not another hack or other serious issue happens.

Maybe that the price will give a short reaction at the time SW gets being put to work, but it's a bit too much to expect such an increase only because of this.

If people had faith that it would result in a massive trigger, then people would have start with buying already to secure themselves a seat in the "yet to be fueled rocket".

I thought about this change. How I see it now - upgrade alone is not enough. Of course is hyped and bitcoin network capabilities will grow.

But if we want price to rise, we need more. For know majority of bitcoiners are holders, they happily stash their coins and wait - I don't think this is good strategy anymore.

We need to use our bitcoins - show the world that it is more than something you can buy once and hold. Bitcoin needs to be live - adoption will push the price higher.

We could have all the upgrades in the world - but when network is not used enough - it won't change anything.

I am not talking about people that bought their coins back in 2013 at the time the ATH peak was in the making. I am talking about those that bought this year and last year. There are enough people that have set their targets on reaching $1000 to sell at. Also, people securing profits doesn't mean they will miss out on potential profits due to the price going higher. It's called smart handling.

I agree it only need some major upgrade and let it be a catalyst to boost price.  We all know  that this is all about speculation on how we convince people to make it believe that the speculation is true.  With this update coupled by good press and then people rally behind this event, there is a huge possiblity of a next bubble to  occur.

We will see $1000+ again, it's just a question of when but it'll most likely take more than the integration of Segwit into Core.

Well there was some news that the "explosion" to $1000+ was caused by a bot that was artificially pushing the price up and above $1000+. I believe it will take the same kind of manipulation for Bitcoin to go above that price in a span of maybe 1 or 2 months. So everytime I see and read threads like these I just roll my eyes and consider it as hype or the poster only trying to hype. There is no crime in that but it is over done to the point that it does not make the people hopeful anymore. I prefer to hear the truth.

segwit will surely be a positive news for bitcoin because it is most expected and also it is a big improvement for bitcoin and anything that can help bitcoin move forward will also increase the price too.

And healthier Bitcoin means a growth in value too. Since the markets were not thrilled, I expect a slow rise. And one day that would mean 1000+.
During the last 365 days the value already doubled (Even more then double: from 240-260 to around 600). It's a promising direction.

i believe that SegWit is going to be the same as halvening as far as price rise effects go.
it can potentially bring a lot of hype to bitcoin which can cause another big rise to happen. and this is just like any other hype before it.
and since bitcoin has been ready for a rise and the support is available enough for this rise, it can happen quickly and become stable on a higher price. but i think this can be as big as $100-$200 rise and not a $400.

Just to be clear with you, I do not deny the possibility of Bitcoin reaching $1000 or more. But in my opinion it will take more time and it will be gradual if there is no manipulation going on. In fact I mentioned something in another thread that it would make sense for Bitcoin to reduce its volatility in % terms by reaching and stabilize at $10,000 per coin.

Unfortunately for bitcoin it comes way too late.
Companies, venture capital, banks are already switching to superior networks like eth and monero.
Bitcoin is slowly dying a quiet death. Every day there are less and less people buying bitcoin and more selling. Even worse, every day there are less and less transactions on the network.
