It's the fall season, and we're clearing out all of our 2016 inventory, which includes this little side project from last spring -- 2016 Bitcoin Penny™ DIY (Do-It-Yourself and Fully Fundable) Commemorative Coins!

I spoke with a few of you earlier this year regarding this highly anticipated side project, and we started prototyping in late Spring. Sadly, things got busy over the summer, and we totally forgot about it. (Our bad!) Luckily, we re-discovered this cool little project a few days ago while clearing shelves. (Our good!)

These 2016 Bitcoin Penny™ DIY Commemorative Coins are still in the idea / prototyping phase, so we're unclear if we'll include them in our official inventory list for the upcoming 2017 Bitcoin Penny™ release. If not, then please feel free to consider these as Limited Edition collectibles, if you'd like.

The front of these coins is our 2016 standard mint "DAVE" design, while the reverse is left blank (with raised edge) as seen in the photos. The size is the same as all Bitcoin Penny™ Commemorative Coins (.900" diameter), and the material is the same high quality copper. In fact, everything about this coin is the same as our 2016 standard mint "DAVE" coin, except for the blank reverse.

The stickers are custom, dual-layer, tamper-evident, silver foil, holographic security stickers made specially for The Bitcoin Penny Company. In case you're curious about the fine print background, it reads: AUTHENTIC | GENUINE | SECURITY | GUARANTEED | TOTALLY REAL | SERIOUSLY!

Here are a few photos...

Product: 2016 Bitcoin Penny™ DIY "Prototype" Commemorative Coins, 10-Pack
Description: You will receive ten (10) DIY coins + one (1) sheet of holographic security stickers (49 stickers).
Price: 0.1 BTC
Payment Address: 1PennyPC21xJ8UcJJ4Wb6YsL1xUz3nS2KD

USA shipping is an additional 0.0125 BTC and international shipping is an additional 0.025 BTC.

Please feel free to ask questions. Thank you.

Regards,
Chris @ TBPCo

IMPORTANT: Please understand that we only minted one hundred (100) of these prototype DIY coins, and some of the coins were used for experiments, so we can only fill the first eight orders. CORRECTION: After packaging the first eight orders, we discovered that we used fewer coins than thought for our experiments, and the mint sent a few extra to replace any "factory seconds" coins. Therefore, these prototype coins are limited to a few more than 100, and we are able to fill a few more orders than originally advertised. Thank you.

Looks good BP!

Only thing I would suggest for the next batch (if you do decide to make another batch) is to add either a transparent window or a number in the holo. Otherwise we can't identify which address corresponds to its coin  Smiley

miffman,

That's a good idea. Honestly, we were expecting that people would most likely fund each coin with exactly .01 BTC, so we weren't too concerned about telling the coins apart. However, I definitely see the better wisdom in your idea, and we'll definitely keep that in mind if we ever release the DIY version in our 2017 catalog. Until then, perhaps they'll be kept inside individual baggies or slabs clearly marked with the public addy. Who knows? Smiley

Will the doodles be DIY aswell, or are they coming pre-assembled? Cheesy

Lutpin! LOL The doodles will come pre-assembled.  Grin

Smallest Bitcoin wallet in existence?

Og, that's an interesting question. Surely we don't hold the title for smallest physical bitcoin wallet...or do we? Huh

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. We always appreciate it! Smiley

I wasn't really expecting another Penny in 2016. These do certainly look interesting.

Well, if it isn't the smallest Bitcoin wallet, then you just got another idea for a partial batch in 2017.

Yes, I was hoping nobody caught that silly mistake. I cut-n-pasted the public addy instead of the priv key. Roll Eyes

Unless you were talking about miffman's comment above... If so, then forget that I pointed out my cut-n-paste mistake when taking the photos. Grin

Reading back , yes.. miffman's comment ... Unless the Hologram is transparent and you print the public/private key back to back.. once the Hologram is placed on the coin... You have no way to tell what the public address is....this looks like a good application for NFC tags...

BG4,

That's true. Honestly, we didn't expect people to store serious funds in them. They were meant to hold .01 BTC only, and then given away as token (no pun intended) gifts. Again, not really meant to keep adding funds once stickered, so the visible public addy didn't really matter to us. However, this was a prototype / experiment, and the transparent window is certainly something for us to keep in mind for 2017, if we decide to officially release them. I suppose it depends on the market. If people want small Bitcoin Penny™ DIY coins, then the people will likely get them in 2017. We'll wait and see. In the meantime, thanks for the feedback, my friend. Smiley

Chris these are indeed cool.  If i may suggest i do agree with bg4.  Someone can just put the sticker on and say there is .01 under there but noone could verify.  Not a biggie now but when btc hits 10k (if) then it would make sense to verify each and every bit.  Very cool though looking forward to 2017.
