It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas!

In about a month, the 5th Bitcoin Black Friday will be upon us. I can barely believe it's been five years already.

The date is November 25th 2016.

If you're new to the community or missed any of the last Bitcoin Black Fridays, BBF is a campaign to promote Bitcoin and Bitcoin Merchants. Each year we aggregate all the deals Bitcoin merchants offer and send out information to the press to show them what Bitcoin can buy you for the holidays.

If you want to sign up for an email reminder when the event launches, or receive early deals, visit http://bitcoinblackfriday.com to sign up as a shopper.

If you're a merchant and want to sign up, the form is located here: http://bitcoinblackfriday.com/merchant

Now, some updates to what has changed this year:

- Earlier deals, published deals before the event launches. This has been a big request so we'll make sure to announce as many deals as we can ahead of Black Friday so people can prepare.

- Search - We're going to add a search bar so you can quickly find what you're looking for.

- Smaller event this year in all likelihood. Merchant adoption has slowed, and a lot of consumer attention has shifted away from Bitcoin.

Sign up for the newsletter at http://bitcoinblackfriday.com if you want to get a reminder about the day. Let me know if you guys have any questions!

Please make sure that fake sites are identified on the day. We have seen scam sites pop up like mushrooms during this period and lots of people lost

money because of this. This puts a damper on the whole initiative, when things like this happens. We should have one site managing these specials,

to make sure that they are legit. Just a heads up...  Roll Eyes

We're the official site. I haven't seen any scam sites pop up yet, but I'll let our newsletter subscribers know if any do.

Yes, but do you remember this --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1268318.0 and how they spoofed the domain and fooled a lot of people?

https://bitcoinonair.wordpress.com/2015/11/28/theres-a-scam-bitcoin-black-friday-site-using-the-info-domain-please-steer-clear-and-spread-the-word/

I got scammed last year and I want everyone to watch out for this in 2016. It's a great initiative, but people gets greedy over this period and then

they become easy targets for scammers.  Angry

Haha uh oh. Bitcoin black Friday. That just sends shivers up my spine. Maybe word it differently right people? For those that were around for the bitcoinblackfriday debacle, it was an utter mess. Just a bunch of sketchy crap all going on under one roof.

Sounds like a good thing, hopefully like others state we can keep the scammers at bay to the most part.
It detracts from what you are looking to achieve.
Black Friday does sound creepy though, never really understood the holiday as a Canadian, like the meaning behind it.

This is my first year here, there is not even a year to be exact. I never heard about bitcoin black friday, I opened site and I signed up. But to be honest I don`t know exactly what for I signed up.
I understand part where merchants and buyers meat, but hows that happen, and what kind of things we can buy? Is there a good discounts? Can someone compare last year bitcoin black friday prices with current ones, was there a difference? I don`t wish to sound stupid, but this is the first time I hear about something like this.

We keep the email count low.

Bitcoin price historically has risen going into the holidays.

The idea is good but it needs people to keep going and be successful. The list shoud be up to date and available to everyone. Merchants should advertise their products to get people interested. Many people just wasn't familiar with fact this is happening.
Hope it will go better this time, good luck.

The idea would be that people who has not bought bitcoin before, see these specials and buy bitcoins to be able to buy these specials. The affect of more people buying bitcoins, should push up the demand for the available coins, and this should in theory push up the price.

The other side of this is that existing hoarders of coins, will start buying some of these specials with the hoard coins and this floods the exchanges with more coins, pushing the price down.

So depending on who participate the most in this < New adopters vs Hoarders > will determine what happens with the price.

Looks good. I was probably going to do most of my shopping on websites that still do not accept Bitcoin, but I was looking into places that will accept Bitcoin directly as well. Hopefully less people are going to be negatively affected than last night (remember the scam website being promoted?). Anyhow, are any deals going to be shown *earlier* without signing up via email?

Considering the situation in America, the price may keep rising before Black Friday which would encourage more shopping (if it starts cooling down around that time).

Yes, I just remember what happened last year with a company who promoted their black Friday offer with signature campaign. We all need to be very carefull at the way we trade when thse typs of offers are announced to the bitcoin users. Hope everyone will act with extra care.

Someone can make a site where you can find products in stores that accept bitcoin, just trusted ones, so in this way is more easy to users know more stores and find the best prices.. not just in black friday... Wink
