Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Watch that laptop doesn't overheat. Laptops are not good miners.

7970m is basically under-clocked desktop 7870
desktop 7870 at 1000/1500 MHz gives about 400kH/s ... https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison
so 250kH is maybe appropriate, probably not possible to go over 300
in guiminer try to use defaults for 7870 not for 7970
try thread-concurrency 15360 or 16384
maybe also try cgminer instead of reaper to see if there is difference
BTW what is your GPU temperature during mining?

With cgminer i use -g 2 which is gpu threads, get 600-680 with scrypt, rad 7970. Cpu threads must be irrelevant, surely.

I second this. I've had several high perforamnce laptops and they ALWAYS ran at 80c+ when gaming and that's not under full load. I understand mobile chips are meant to have a higher heat tolerance and the 7-series runs cooler but my my I do hope you don't ruin 2 amazing mobile GPUs.
