I'd go with the Asus H81M Plus. Its got only 4 PCI-E slots but is very cheap and the ratios building rigs with 4 GPUs are much better.
Cheap CPU, 2 cheap PSUs, 4 RX480 Nitro 4GB GPUs.

I don't get the point of purchasing a MB with less than 6 slots tbh...it's not the best way to optimize costs.

Hey, when you come out of those 16x slots with a powered usb 1x riser, there's no issues? Or do you use the ribbon flex 16x to 16x? I have heard a bunch of stuff from people about the 1x not working in the 16x slot on the MSI gaming board.

There is plenty of mobos out there , i personally like the gigabyte ,i am using a no. Of gigabyte ultra durable and it works fine for months now , also i don't like using raisers it only generates problems , i would like to set my cards directly on the mobo so i get that mobos with minimum 4x 16xpcie with good psu and forget about it.

Is there a specific model of the gigabyte ultra durable that you reccomend? I'm looking at the gigabyte webpage and there are over 300 model variations of the ultra durable...lol. I'm planning a low budget noob rig and I'm thinking I should settle with 4 16pcie instead of what everybody else seems to recommend, which is 6 or 7 slots.

Have somebody problem with MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3x. Work only 3 cards of 6.

The Z170 boards are not too good for mining.. max 4 cards.. they have memory lane limitations.

They work with 7 GPUs just not all of them. I have an MSI Z170A Gaming m5 with 7x470.

Guys, I'm just about to pull the trigger on the parts to build two 7-GPU rigs. Was going for the MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon mobos, please tell me they will actually support 7 GPUs... Reading this thread got me scared!

Best Boards of 2017 IMO are:

H270-P and Z270-P by ASUS

and Biostar TB250 and TB350.

TB350 being based on AM4, goes well with AM4 X4 950
TB250 being intel, goes well with G3900 (since its cheaper than the kaby lake counter and you can run win 7 or 8 on the skylake G3900)

Hello!
Could you tell me how you start up 6 GPUs on MSI Z270-A Pro? I can start only 4 cards.
What version of BIOS and performances do you use? Thanks it all.

Sorry for interrupting but how do you use GPUs with PCIe x1 slots? Do you use riser or something?

note i am not endorsing this particular one, there are lots of them with varying quality. you can get some high quality ones from some members here.
