What are the best GPUs for mining altcoins? isn't it odd that there are GPUs priced at $1000 and even more but when you benchmark them you'll see that for mining they are not worth a penny Smiley

for now the best seems the 470 on zcash with its 120 sol, otherwise for nvidia you only have the 1060 3gb which cost a bit more and does only 65 sol or something

but consumption is lower for nvidia, because of no proper optimization also, anyway i would probably not buying a new rig now

How are you getting 120 on your 470? What mem straps/bios?

i don't have a 470 rig, but you can do 120 sol by using optiminer or whatver is called, it's another miner more optimized, check the thread on the zcash forum

do newegg ship to UK?

you can try but i don't think so you may have to use there uk site if they have one.

Here's there uk site so i would say no :"( ...

http://www.newegg.com/global/uk

The prices look close to the US price, i think, i don't know how much £142 is to you all, I mean is that a lot there ? in the Us it's 178 $, so not to bad .

cm 5 is doing close to that now
Code:
ZEC: GPU0 112.822 H/s, GPU1 119.066 H/s, GPU2 111.511 H/s

some one made post that explains we have all most maxed out the 470 with 8gb cards which might reach 146 sol 4gb half that ? .

If only ZEC price stopped going down so much.
It is making all those speed advances largely irrelevant.
Whoever shorted ZEC is making a lot of dough so far.

I keep saying that  i hate to see all the hard work every one is putting it into zcash only to see it die. then what > back to ETH Smiley.

I'd rather stick to Eth mining, Zcash has a lot of troubles , though its profitable for now i just think its not worth putting all your mining power into it.Ethereum is stable  and with a stable mining pool , there is still a lot of profit in mining it

I heard the ZCash Zaddress can be used now.

https://z.cash/blog/new-release-1.0.3.html

New Release: 1.0.3
Sean Bowe | Nov 17, 2016

Today we're announcing the release of Zcash 1.0.3 which fixes several crashes and security bugs, improves performance, and adjusts relay policies.

We strongly recommend users and miners update to this version, as it fixes a cache invalidation bug that could be used by an attacker to disrupt the network. (See #1874.)

Other changes in this release include:

We fixed a bug that caused the wallet to crash during startup in some situations, such as when the wallet is not synchronized properly with the blockchain. (#1858)
We re-enabled note randomization that was temporarily disabled in 1.0.2. (#1814)
We adjusted fee policies to reflect changes made in Bitcoin Core and encourage relaying of transactions containing JoinSplits. (#1855)
We improved diagnostics and strengthened testing for the merkle tree's interaction with the constraint system. (#1797)
We disabled RPC keepalive features temporarily to avoid deadlocks. (#1847)
We adjusted our use of the libsnark verification API to improve zk-SNARK verification performance by 10%. (#1760, stats)
We changed the error message format for z_sendmany so that amounts are displayed in units of ZEC. (#1838)
We're encouraging all users and miners to update to this new version. See our download page and the 1.0 User Guide for more information.

For a more complete list of changes, see our 1.0.3 github milestone. To follow our progress, watch the GitHub project and join the forum.

Nope... as of now (over 2 weeks after 1.03 was released), their stinking Z-wallets STILL do no work (at least on FlyPool).  This just baffles me. How can the devs release this without Z-wallets working alone is shameful, but the fact that they have not fixed it still... what, 5-6 weeks after release... is a down-right travesty!  Is it any wonder that the price of ZEC continues to drop?  Why should anyone have any confidence in this crypto at all since the pathetic devs can't even get their Z-wallets working? Really, really sad and truly pathetic!

Right now I have RX480's mining Zcash.. I'm thinking about switching back to ETH, but Zcash is a little easier on the cards and doesn't seem to use as a lot of power.

I will decide in the next few days what to do because it seems ETH is more profitable by a small margin.

on ETH i get 29~Mhs with moded bios on 480 8G
I'll do a research what can I get on 470 if bios modding is possible on them, the price charmed me for next upgrade

And do note that the core count is cut down on the 470D vs the 470  - 1792 vs 2048.

I did some serious number crunching on RX470 vs RX480, and the 2 speed grades yesterday based on published hashrates - and *right now* the slower RX470s come out ahead on hash/$ especially on the lower cost models - even at the system level.
It's pretty close though, and the hash/w figures are all tightly clumped.

I just with there were more options on blower-type cards, though the Sapphire RX470 at $179 (on the actual NewEgg site vs the eBay listing at $159 but a bit higher shippping) are petty close to the cheap PowerColor stuff that I won't even consider buying (I've had nothing but ISSUES out of the very few PowerColor cards I've owned, they're right down at the bottom with HIS non-blower cards on my list, while Sapphire is one of my "go to" brands and has been for a VERY long time).

BTW - I was able to get a gift card "refund" on my existing order for 2 of those Sapphire cards based on that eBay listing - I'm glad philipma1957 posted it! 8-)
That put my actual out of pocket right about the SAME as the cheapest Powercolor card. 8-)

What problems did you have with Powercolor? I bought one (a RX480 that was cheaper than any RX470)and now mining with it and it seems fine for now. It only have a 6 pins power, finger crossed that it will be fine.

my power color RX 480 i bought two weeks ago works great, i had to mode the bios in order for it to run cool and do the speeds i wanted it to . i did not use any one else es bios i had to play with it till i figured out what would work now it works the same as my 470 only faster and i plan to buy a few more they still sell at the price of a 470 .

The new leaked info on the new AMD DRIVERS due out soon lowers heat and power usage and probable runs better then Nvidia once they release .
