I think the whole technology is new and it will take some time for the people to adopt it. I'm sure we'll see some real world use of blockchain technology quite soon. It is getting popular day by day, But the problem in making it a central digital currency is that it is total anonymity. Any government would not want it's people to be anonymous while transacting.
