I am conducting a sort of survey on what we all see as problems in the bitcoin community.

I hope to spark an open discussion that eventually reaches a consensus.

We should probably focus on only the top 7, or maybe top 10, 5 etc...

What are the MAIN problems you face, or you have seen others face, with bitcoin?

I will list what I think are the top problems. NOTE that these are my personal opinions...
1. Still not adopted by enough of the masses to appear in local businesses
2. Too many god damn scam websites,
3. Coinbase closed my account for no reason, a law should exist to prevent businesses denying individuals key services
4. Coinbase currently is the only way to automatically send RECURRING bitcoin payments - recurring transactions a must
5. no transparent, openly white hat bounty hacker police for problem #2 - an internet police white hat hacker network would be nice

"Identifying problems leads to solutions to those problems.
I have the passion and drive to find people who can solve said problems.
Thank you for any input you may have to offer. Long live Bitcoin!"

The main problems I face with bitcoins are:

1. Lack of adoption (like you mentioned): In other countries, there are still ATMs and online websites that accept bitcin payments but we have no online shopping website in India accepting bitcoin payments.
2. Bitcoin Debit cards: Indian exchange websites do not offer us any bitcoin debit card and other websites do not ship their debit card internationally. Even Coinbase does not allow Indian users to buy/sell our coins.
3. Bitcoin legality: Due to bitcoins being irreversible and not legal, there is no way for any bitcoin user to complain or file an FIR and get their money back in bitcoins.
4. Bitcoin users: I've noticed that many bitcoin users (not mentioning anyone specifically) are using this currency for scamming and illegal purposes and many who contact me share those methods which shocks me as they are associating bitcoins with their illegal trades which is creating difficulties for genuine users.
5. Government issues: Recently, Coinbase was asked to share the details of its users to the Government for tax purposes. This will become an issue in the long run if we need to give an account for each penny we earn in bitcoins.

These are some of the problems I have faced.

My main problem is the fact that I cannot pay my utility bills with Bitcoin directly to those companies and acceptance in stores is still low. Other than that, I don't think I have issues using Bitcoin at the moment. Eventually the lack of space in a block may be a small nuisance, periodically, but we haven't been hit hard with that so far.

1. Adoption can't be quick like all have speculated, even to see small changes in worldwide scenario it will require really long time and regarding bitcoin it is really new way to do financial transaction so people will need really long time to understand and start using bitcoin all over the world.

2. There are many scam websites which also use other payment methods, so i don't think bitcoin should be blamed on this.

3. Coinbase is centralized platform so they are not more than like paypal, bitcoin is designed to be used without any third party downloading own bitcoin wallet or electrum like desktop wallet will remove this types of problems with using coinbase.

4. Why recurring payments is must?  Roll Eyes

5. Bitcoin transaction is transparent, better to say its untraceable which is one of the feature which add more value to use of bitcoin. It can't be removed or replaced.

The main problems I have faced while using Bitcoin are:

1. The acceptance of Bitcoin among some of the biggest online retailers is nowhere near enough. Online retailers and brick and mortar shops need to step up their game and move with the times.
2. Too many Bitcoin exchanges have been hacked as of late and the inside job excuse is present in almost all the of cases. Shady as hell.
3. Bitcoin has become the favorite tool of online thieves and scammers. Unfortunately I don't know how this could be fixed or ameliorated.
4. Bitcoin is volatile as hell. This is a double-edged sword and it can both make you win more money and make you lose more money. A mute point but still.

in my opinion one of the biggest problems nowadays is lack of consensus. we are clearly facing a block size issue now, before it was not yet this big but these days the problem with it is becoming more obvious (and i am not only talking about today's exceptional large mempool).

and the solutions that are available are accepted by some and others deny it,

Personal problems? Lack of places to spend it. There are a handful in the UK but nothing like the options Americans have.

Wider issues? Scaling and the strife it has stirred up.

Worrying about adoption is premature. If the entire world did suddenly decide it all wanted in at once it would be a total disaster.

1. In many countries the transferexchange between Bitcoin and fiat is far from easy. Spending directly is even more "funny"...
2. The network gets overloaded pretty often (big mempool), but I hope that SegWit will help on decreasing this.
3. People need to get a bit technical, understand how the wallet works (and fees), protect their computer/device.

Edit: wording.

1. Yes, the acceptance of bitcoin is not big, like media always mentioned on their headlines, maybe sellers are just too lazy or scared for accept bitcoin as their payment option.
2. I might say all of the sites especially exchanger and investment sites have possibility to scam, so it's depends on you to manage and protect your funds.
3. why do you still using coinbase while there are so many wallets better than coinbase out there, i think better to controll your own private key.
4. i just don't get it with this one.
5. Bitcoin transaction is transparent actually, maybe it's little hard to track who's behind that address moreover if they used mixing service. However i really love this feature "the Pseudonym"
As for me maybe bitcoin's volatile nature, it's ok if the price is pumped, so bad when the price is being dumped.

for me the adoption , my btc worth zero in my country cause no one is using it
in general most of my problems aren't related to btc , it's more to do with my country cause we don't have visa , master , paypal , neteller , payza ...etc they all don't offer services for my country
so I can't use my bitcoins in my real life and also I can't exchange them , but hopefully this will change in the next year or so

In my country Bitcoin is not widely accepted and there are no many retail stores where you can spend Bitcoins. Some people have never heard of it, some think it's illegal.
In general there are many fraudulent web sites who offer fast and easy Bitcoins but actualy scam people. Bitcoin is becoming less and less anonimous.

I will also list the problems I have been facing as in order of importance to me

1. The irreversible nature of Bitcoin in the case of scam transactions and one cannot even do anything about it and no one to even report to for necessary follow-up. This I have fallen victim and I know quite a number of people would have as well.

2. Another germane is the issue of acceptance in buying basic needs especially in this part of the world where I have to go through the hurdles of exchanger in other to get to FIAT after that get basic things I need...

people are ignorant, dumb and lazy.
they are to lazy to check bitcoin for themselves if you tell them, that they should do it.
they are to dumb to understand it and prefer to hear some promising make believe from a scammer to take their money.
they are to ignorant if you tell them honestly about bitcoin and don not forget to tell them that there are risks and also learning involved.

What are the MAIN problems you face, or you have seen others face, with bitcoin?

block size which has lead to fee wars Cheesy

Quote
1. Still not adopted by enough of the masses to appear in local businesses

yeah, this is the second biggest issue for me and it has forced me and I think majority of users to only think of bitcoin as an investment not a currency.

Quote
2. Too many god damn scam websites,

scams happen everywhere.
in bitcoin since there are too many newbies the scammers have a better time at finding victims who are too gullible to fall for a 40% profit daily scheme!

Quote
3. Coinbase closed my account for no reason, a law should exist to prevent businesses denying individuals key services
4. Coinbase currently is the only way to automatically send RECURRING bitcoin payments - recurring transactions a must

I don't agree with this two because mostly Coinbase is a third party and it should not be even in the list when you are talking about bitcoin.

Quote
5. no transparent, openly white hat bounty hacker police for problem #2 - an internet police white hat hacker network would be nice

there is no need. as I said earlier it is only because newbies are gullible and fall for scams, while all of them have been a clear scam and a simple google search would have clarified that for them.

my main problem is number 1. Because when i want to buy something, it will be perfect if i can use bitcoin to pay, but not much shop or place in my country that accept bitcoin.

In my opinion, there are to many Bitcoin SCAM sites, Revshare and HYIP, with false promises for high return.
Also, in my country, very few people accept Bitcoin offline, no so many users in my local area, no legal regulations etc.
I also don't like to much exchange fees connected with Bitcoin.

I think the most important problem is " Why do I need to use Bitcoin, over other payment options " Most people in the first world countries are

swamped with payment options and we need to compete with these options. They want SPEED and CONVENIENCE and SECURITY .... Does

Bitcoin tick these boxes, or are we simply another option? Do they understand the benefits of a decentralized network, over the centralized

options out there?

Do they understand the benefits of a decentralized network, over the centralized options out there?

In a world where people are fully aware of what Facebook and friends are doing to their privacy, and indeed their users actively aid in shredding it, I think that's more of a don't care than a don't know.
