It looks like vh has submitted something to -ck on GitHub but I haven't seen the request responded too publicly yet.

Software will be made available when it's ready, and before 2Pacs start shipping. It's up to VH when to release, and he has a plan. He said he'd set something up before the review sticks go out so folks will be able to actually run them, and that's probably not until next week because necessary parts to build the rest of the prototype sticks are still inbound.

I'll be sending VH a care package including an original Compac, a couple 2Pacs and a decent testing hub so he can see how they behave in person and iron out any issues locally. Should speed up compatibility and stability issues.

That is GREAT to know! I will keep an eye out for the release, & hope it's safe to assume the download will be posted in this Thread whenever you and VH decide it's ready. Thanks again sidehack!!

I would say we're more than 3/4 paid on the batch, but it's no longer entirely accurate. I have ordered 1000 PCBs, but MacEntyre's sticks for bitshopper.de will require a separate one-off PCB order with silkscreens to include some information he requires for European markets. He's paid up on a full 250 sticks to make this more economically feasible. Since he'll be getting custom boards anyway I'll be sending him some with sweet black soldermask to match his German-made original Compacs.

Therefore the total group buy size can exceed 1000, since I'll have about 1000 for domestic sale plus 250 for bitshopper.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

Germany's official flag colors are black, red and yellow in that order, plus black is popular in clothes, so I see that.
My question is: can we here in US have something special re our colors, like red or blue.
2Pac-red or 2Pac-blue (or both), if it is doable, maybe with few extra $?
Could be quite nifty, unless it is too late (maybe sink at least?).

Last year Bitshopper licensed the Compac design for manufacture in Germany and they were made in all black, so I figured I'd get him 2Pacs to match. I don't know what motivations went into his choosing that color scheme but all in all they were quite sexy.

In general, for stuff I build, the color it is is the color it is. There is some precedence for a red Compac, maybe at least a red heatsink, but the all-green was kinda deliberate. Doesn't look like there'll be any options on the 2Pac heatsink color, just bare aluminum, unless I feel like experimenting with an anodize setup. But I'll probably be too busy.

Agreed, Aluminum will be fine.

My opinion is to keep it simple, don't create extra work for yourself for something that will not change the functionality.

Couldn't agree more! With so much work ahead of GekkoScience/sidehack at this point, the last thing they need to spend time on is looking into different color options (although a US color themed stick like Biodome suggested, or even a red stick sure would make a great looking miner). Personally, if given the choice I would choose the less expensive miner if the only difference between them was color anyway.

I'm just VERY anxious for the 2pacs & looking down the road even further at the Bitfury 16nm chip. GekkoScience may have too many fun upcoming toys that I want ASAP (unfortunately I'm the impatient guy who always wants instant gratification). Looks like significant progress is being made though - nice work!

Would it be possible to download the VH CGMiner (or driver) at this time? After reading about all of the benefits/improvements from zadig, I would LOVE to begin using it to run my existing compacs (plus it would also be ready for when all of the new gear starts arriving)?

With all of the previous problems I faced long ago with getting CGMiner to run compacs on Windows using zadig, it would be nice to delete all of the many compilations I made in an attempt to make the original compacs work. I have been too scared when it comes to deleting the folders with what I'm pretty sure to be bad compilations (and I know I could figure it out), but since I'm not low on storage I have kept all 8-10 folders with CGMiner installations/files just to be safe..

I did look in most of your threads with recent activity for a download link, but apologize if I may have missed it. Thanks sidehack!

I agree, it would be nice to get the new miner up and running with the original compacs as soon as possible.
I'm sure when it is ready sidehack and/or vh will let everyone know.

Thanks for agreeing & the reassurance that one of them will clearly post a download link once it is 100% ready for public release. I looked around in the last several Threads sidehack was last seen in to make sure it wasn't already posted somewhere, but asked in case I had somehow missed it.

[unfortunately] I'm a Windows guy & am currently running a stripped down version of 10, & the right software/drivers for things like sidehack's compacs can make a world of difference! Wish I had the time to dedicate for learning how to fully use Linux/Ubuntu because I really can't stand Windows, but it's all I really know..

Someone provided a Windows build of cgminer-gekko back when the first Compacs rolled out. I know it worked because I bench-tested the first couple thousand sticks with it. Check the early pages of the support thread.

I also don't know how well it works on Windows 10. I don't know how well anything works on Windows 10, or if Windows 10 even works. I probably never will.

VH said he'd put up download links and a software support thread or some such by the time the proof 2Pacs have gone out to reviewers. I should have had those out already but I've been seriously backed up, but that'll probably happen by Tuesday.

That's good news.

I have the Linux build for the 1 chip stick.

The windows build worked for both 7 and 10 but as you added sticks they ran worse.
I had and still have monster usb hubs. And the issue left with the Linux build.

So I need to look for the the new build and test the 1 pac with the 2 pac.

This is GREAT news - THANK YOU!

The original build of CGMiner for windows found in the original compac thread does work on Win 10, although it acts up more often than I would like (which is why it's great to hear we will have a newer version soon). Thanks again for the update - keep chugging along doing what you're best at sidehack! Choo-Chooo..   Cheesy

That is the problem I currently get the most frequently Phil - very erratic individual stick behavior as you begin running 2 or more. The most annoying thing is when CGMiner just decides to randomly shutdown on its own. Especially when you're away for a 2 week Holiday, & it decides to shutdown right before you board your flight after you spent a TON of time setting everything up in preparation! (true story)

I've seen this with all versions of cgminer I've used, both on Windows and RasPi. "fixed" it with a simple shell script that restarts cgminer whenever it stops...

I found a MUCH easier solution for Windows - All you need to do is add CGMiner as a Windows Service & then tell it to restart if/when it closes! Not sure what the file was that you sent me ppetrovic68 PmToC, but it came up as a "backdoor" virus..

Anyone wondering how to have CGMiner automatically restart if/when it shuts down, here's how:

Run Command Prompt as administrator & type the following (quotations needed):
sc create cgminerservice binpath= "<path_to_the_executable>"
  • for example: sc create cgminerservice binpath= "C:\Users\cgminer-gekko-win32\cgminer.exe"
  • if done properly, you should get the result "Successful"

Now you will need to open Windows Services (one way is to click start and type services.msc)

Lastly, locate "cgminerservices", right-click, select "Properties", then click on "Recovery" tab & select "Restart the Service"

this is very useful, thanks
typically, I don't even use windows with sticks. Both raspberry pi and Linux seem to have very stable configs for mining.
