I am looking to add some extra mining power to my system. I have been able to find a couple of 5970s in similar prices to the 7970 and 7950. I am mining BTCs now however obviously switching to LTC pretty soon if difficulty is going to sky rocket. Which ones do you recommend? As far as I understand the 5970s are very good when it comes to BTC; are they performing well though for LTC? Also their reselling value will not be that much after lets say a year since they are already old and power consumption is a killer for them. 7970s are currently top of the line however performing less than 5970 for BTC; are they good enough for LTC though? they should also keep their reselling value. and of course the the 7950s which are supposed to be pretty good for LTC and ok for BTC.
So here it is, which ones do you recommend?

I'm not a fan of any of the 5xxx cards anymore, because some of them are now 2-3 years old, and you don't know how much longer they're going to last. Stick with the 7xxx cards. 7970s are the top performers, but the 7950s can be had for some pretty good bargains.

Lol... man Solomining isnt going to be worth it until 10Mh/s ... You have a few rigs to build until you get there... do Notroll or other litecoinpools...

Just got home from work and found i am 50Ltc richer... wishing it was Btc however.
but i agree i probably should have been on a pool, but i never got to solo mine btc so i wanted to give ltc a crack.
4 7970's on their way should aid things a little, and my first computer i ever mined with 2 x 6870
maybe 5mh/s if i am lucky..

I just got three 7950s. Price was the factor. I never buy newest or top-of-the-line hardware any more because the price is outrageous. Go for "last year's" model and save a bundle.

May I suggest the HIS IceQX2 7970's I picked 4 up the other day for $350 each they are treating me very nicely good temps with all 4 of them on a MOBO no risers [got to wait for local shop to get some in stock] and they each get 660 mh/s at a nice stable 75c with fans going 60%. So once I get the risers should have some OC room with those temps

I don't use a case and I do actually have one card on a riser so saying 4 on the mobo was a little lie [shop only had 1 riser in stock]
