I did it once too. I did a martingale on a gambling site. I multiplied my money by ten folds. Pulled out my original bankroll then played the winnings using martingale again. In the end, I just lost the winnings. But, luckily I was able to get back my school fund. So sorry for your loss OP! You should have think twice when you did it.

We have the same situation OP on which I spend a little portion of my school allowance for the whole year and luckily the amount was lost is only a 1/4 on the total amount which doesn't hurt me soo much and same as you I do save up money as much as I can in able to survive the whole year since my parents would really scolded me when they know that the money they gave is being spend on gambling that's why I suffer the consequences.

Well, I would say that I did this back in 2014. My mother already deposited all the money I need to pay for school for the year and also some allowance for my daily needs. I gambled around half of it on NBA odds. I lost that half. So I lived on really cheap food and really avoided buying anything. I even tried to avoid buying things I need like books just to save money. Was a gruesome year for me, luckily I got through. Wouldn't do that again.

How bout you guys, would you do it?

first of all you should always gamble with money that you can afford to lose. it is like the first rule of gambling that everyone should know before going it. casinos should have this as warning on their first page, like what cigarette boxes have a warning about lung cancer.

also, sorry to say this but only a gambling addict loses all or even half his whole money on gambling and it shows you lack control.

although it is good that you already figured this out and apparently stopped yourself before a disaster. and that is your luck right there. from now on try to only gamble with small amounts that you can afford to lose.

Well, I was young, wild and free at the time. I didn't know better. It's these experiences that makes us who we are today. Now, I don't gamble too much. I just play for fun and just a few dollars and faucet dusts. I wouldn't lose more than a hundred dollars any more at a time. So I would say I totally learn my lesson there. I would not like to go back to eating instant noodles on a daily basis.

Man, that's a great risk! You should have not done it. That money wasn't yours to gamble. That money was intended for you school dude. I wouldn't do it if I was in your place. I abide by the rule gamble only what you can afford to lose. In your case, you had no right to gamble that because you cannot afford to lose that money.

Indeed, I think that the people are doing this are insane and not good in their mind, you should never do this its for your kids man..

Op has took a big risk. This happens due to addiction. I haven't been addicted similar to OP. He could have given a pause when he experienced first failure and made some other plans. Somehow he had managed to fullfil all his needs even when he is in a hard situation. He seems to be good in money management.

I wouldn't say it was an addiction. I would say it was brought about by being young and reckless. I would define an addict as one who gambles every single cent he ever gets his hands on. I think OP was able to stop when he knew he already lost half of the money. He never did try to win it back and just went on and walk away from gambling.

As a former shit, good thing you did that and experienced lost. If you managed to get winnings out of your risky actions then definitely you will feel the experience of being a winner. And by that you will continue you gambling life even you loss big after that since you want to feel that winning experience again.

Sometimes we really need to experience worst before our heads bumped and realized what's the wise thing to do even we are into gambling.

P.S Back in my studying days, it's really hard to spend all my school funds into anything else other than the main purpose since I know how my parents worked hard for it.

Yes, OP's incident clearly shows how he values education. But at the same time we need to think about how people are treating gambling and how much faith they are having within gambling for making better fortunes from it. Lack of awareness about gambling dangers is the prime reason for the problems of OP.

It is a bad idea to gamble money for schooling in the first place.  OP is lucky that he is able to stop at halfway.  At least he still have money for important projects or at least daily budgeted allowances.

I would never have done, betting my school fund.  I always see how my parents work hard for money to the point that they need to borrow from their friends because there are 4 of us studying college at the same time.  I wasting my allowances to gambling is a no for me.

I am not that young so that I can talk about myself, and I never committed such mistake for myself.
When it comes to my child, I will definitely not do that because I can't compromise with the education and future of my child and so, I won't gamble too much, at least not my child's school fund.

Well I am not young anymore but surely any money my parents gave me for my daily spendings in high school and university I spent 70% of them in gambling through different casino. This was pocket money for me and I never regret doing such things. I used to go with the 10 Euro the minimum to play in casinos in my city and played slots there and got a lot of free drinks out of this 10 Euro. In the end was a great experience for me.

I think I would not spend my child school fund though on gambling as that is the clear example of gambling addiction. I am not addicted (yet).

What kind of lowlife gambling addiction pisses away their educafion in hopes of some quick money!? Hey moron! If you get your degree you'll make 2x+ on your salary for your lifetime. That's not a gamble. Don't be an idiot.

Oh ya, no I wouldn't gamble away money that's needed. I also wouldn't buy fucking heroine with money that I need for my dog to have surgery or to pay for Christmas presents. This is disgusting. You should be ashamed of your addiction.

Obvously not, that is just freaking insane. When you are given money to do something for free, you should not gamble it in a damn casino, and it still aplies to the market casino, you should have used it for its initial purpose. Studying within itself is an investment in yourself. Of course, studying and working sucks when there are people making tons of money on the internet, but I have always failed to set up a website or whatever and get money, so im stuck with a god damn job.

If you are having a problem with gambling it is better to consult a doctor rather than gambling with the future of your child. These kind of people will ruin their family and i would not dare to do so even in my dreams.
Whatchu talkin bout?   Doctas don't treat gamblin' addiction.  Especially after this fool done went an' gambled away his school money.  You lucky yo parents didn't bust a 3rd semester abortion on yo stupid ass.

I like to gamble, but I know how much I can spend, and I never go over that, and I never borrow money to have for gambling.

No, I wouldn't. It's so irresponsible and desnecessary... Money for children school belong to them, adults must respect what belongs to the children.
Their future is very important to be wasted for an adult on a fast gambling game. Money for gambling is that money is remaining after you pay and save everything you have to during the month.

I did this too way back 2012 when I was still in college and I spent 25% of my total fund for paying my tuition fee. Since I am that active with e-sports  betting because I was once a Dota player. Unfortunately, what happened is I lost that amount and that's why I stopped studying by that year because the cashier doesn't want to accept my payment unless I will pay in full.  Cry
