I think they should add Litecoin and maybe Namecoin because they've been around long enough and seem stable. But I'd stop there, the rest need a year or two to prove there stable and that people actually want them.

sounds like a desperate attempt to cling onto a monopoly founded in fear of a technologically advanced crypto-currency.
"Never let a crisis go to waste"
how about a petition for mt gox to put some of their millions into advanced ddos protection

For both performance reasons and to make a stance and show the bullshit scam alt-chains aren't worthy of attention.

I don't agree.
They absolutely need to get their shit together first, but I'd like to see them get Litecoin going by the summer. They're going to be overtaken by some other company quite quickly if they don't. The market has a demand for multiple coins.
+1. Without litecoins, they are forcing me to go back to fiat if I want to get out of the bitcoin game for a little bit while things cool off. On BTC-e, I can swap into litecoins, wait, then get back into bitcoins when i'm ready. That's only one of the benefits of having altcoins, it needs to happen on Gox. +1. Litecoin is pretty much the only reasonably fast way to move money between exchances and services, and the only possible hedge that doesn't involve fiat. We need that asap in MtGox, but on a dedicated server please!

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5424980#msg5424980

Totally and utterly disagree! Remember that idea of the free market, free enterprise, de-centralized currency? Bitcoin is not MTGox! Simple rule of the free market, if you don't like it, buy something else! I use BTC-e!

While I welcome competition among cryptocurrencies, I don't support cloning bitcoin. It is easy, sources are open. Change several lines of code, or don't change nothing at all, and you can start a new cryptocurrency. But that undemines one of main ideas of bitcoin: limited, predefined supply. If today you adopt litecoin, tomorrow other people will adopt some other coin. The great idea will be wasted, we will have a bunch of cryptoponzis instead of one cryptocurrency. That will eventually lead to crash of bitcoin and all of its forks, including litecoin.
Nonetheless, if a new currency, which resolves at least some problems of bitcoin emerges, I will support it.

I'm a LTC miner so would like to see the value go up, but MTGOX just can't handle the loads right now. They need more infrastructure. The volume at which the alt coins will be traded at is pretty intense. I don't see how they could effectively handle this load increase at all considering the current delays with BTC.

Signed. Changing two things: block target time and hashing algorithm, and leaving every thing else exactly the same is not reason enough to split bitcoin-based cryptocurrency into two blockchains. It's in the interest of the bitcoin community, Mtgox included, to not let the network fragment.
If a bitcoin-variant provides an advantage, that advantage should be adopted by bitcoin. A single parameter change doesn't warrant introducing a reset blockchain with 10s of millions of coins in it and splitting the network between the original blockchain(s) and it.

I have always wanted namecoin support - are they proposing to support namecoins or maybe they already are working on it?
