That's right. If you spend your time mostly on surfing social media without gaining anything or learning something useful to be productive, they would be just a waste of your time. People spend most of their time on the internet that is not useful, they do not make use of the internet to earn or to learn.

The question is a matter of perception and results. For me, every decision i make is based on a cost-benefit analysis. Coming online sometimes, for me, is for the purpose of getting information, working such blogs, bounties or freelancing. I also cone online to connect with people and to facilitate tasks that can only be accomplished online e.g e-mail. All these is not a waste of life by any standard.
