How can you do anything with that? Any prediction you are going to make 20 mins from now when MtGox catches up is asinine. * ErebusBat wishes we had a decent exchange with stop loss / take profit orders.

not panic. it's pretty bad this continues to happen. i'm sure a lot of orders are being executed when people don't want them to
it's causing some kind of dip already. intentional or not it still is not good

Change is coming I'm sure. The other exchanges are holding relatively steady. Everyone knows we have only ever crashed higher. (Eventually anyway)
You can fight for cheap coins if you want- but with a 20 minute lag you've got no idea what you are buying (or selling) into.

It isn't panic, it is a fact. It is over 1300s right now. If you are trying to ride the bubble, then it is impossible because I can't enter a sell order sanely when the trade engine has 20 minutes of trades ahead of me. We may well be @ 100 and not even know it yet :/ You can fight for cheap coins if you want- but with a 20 minute lag you've got no idea what you are buying (or selling) into.
^^^ Exactly this.

I just sent this to Mt.Gox support:
Please cease operations and re-open when you can handle such traffic. 1000s of people would thank you for that brave decision !!! They would even admire you ! Me too !

And then what will happen when they announce they're resuming operations at 2:00 EDT? A thousand people will place panic orders at the same time and there will be a bunch of lag.

I hate to be a voice of reason, but you could start trading on a different exchange. No more lag. Otherwise gox will keep doing what they're doing, which is making them money.

pretty much does this every week, not difficult to predict the top and put in buy orders, or just hold, no use trying to trade but why would you when other exchanges have no lag for one third the cost?

Bitstamp was really struggling too, filled a few small limit orders but could probably get cheaper when things calm down.

This isn't an attack. Please notice all bitcoin sites are significantly lagged right now. This is called a run on the bank. FUD, etc. Keep an eye on the price, once it bottoms out, buy. I agree with the other posters. If they "halted" trading because of this lag, there'd just be twice as much lag later.
One idea though would be to halt this lag, bring in cloudflare, resume trading, handle everything smoothly.
