The mainstream media now have the order of the powers that be to not inform the public about bitcoin since they are scared that it's going to take the banking system down, so they dont want to give any bad news, they will just keep talking about hacks and crime and stuff.

Maybe they will not be able to keep quiet about it when we hit a new ATH in the next hours/days.

Let's keep it that way. Mainstream media doesn't know how to cover Bitcoin correctly when it goes down or there are issues, so might as well not cover it at all. You don't do things "half assed", as some say. But they will remember us if we go higher than previous ATH, because profit Roll Eyes

It's time to hang up that tinfoil hat and go to sleep.

It's Christmas. The news is all worried about talking to weirdos on the street that are last minute shopping. Idk, doesn't matter. A huge pump causes a huge dump. We don't need that shit.

Well media is media, they only make things "news worthy" if they say so. Also its not their fault, because they are only showing news for the general public. The general public is what makes them the money for them to earn. We need to accept we Bitcoin users are few compared to most of the population. Plus a lot of question will come to mind if they make it a big scoop.

Everytime the same happens with bitcoin news. Most of the time press coverage too doesn't seems that effective to help in further spreading about the real facts. Media and press to support bitcoin takes lot time.

The media doesn't really even talk about Bitcoin being used for "hackers and cyber criminals" any more.  They just try to avoid covering it at all.  And I think you're right, the elites would like to avoid this situation as much as they can.  The fact that there is an easy way to hedge their money into a limited asset like Bitcoin is a huge liability, and people really still don't know much about it.  I think we are definitely still in the "ignore" phase, for sure.

I think people think of Bitcoin, like you would with trading stocks... they probably think they would need to get a broker and view Bitcoin as a sort of hassle.

A lot of this is sensationalist to be honest, if there isn't anything they can say to make it seem more fantastical than it really is then chances are they'll just ignore it and publish something else. Talking about Bitcoin isn't something that interests most people, so it makes sense that places like bloomberg will publish a story but not other mediums.

Any new related to bitcoin is good for bitcoin promotion, even being a bad new at the moment, bitcoin its recovering and reaching the old value it had once in the past, media talking about it once again can cause another bubble. But i doubt it can happen again, those buble had some people and low support thats why turned into nightmare, nowadays we are much more people and there are whales, exchanges, miners another group with huge ammount of bitcoin.

They would not cover it too much because their boss who's milking the banking system is watching them , maybe if ISIS would use bitcoin as their primary currency to buy weapons of mass destruction then that's the time they will cover it. As long as were doing good on bitcoin much better to not let media ruin our current freedom.

BBC has just produced an article on Bitcoin:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38415066

Quote
Bitcoin enjoys end of year price surge

The value of the Bitcoin virtual currency has hit a three-year high with each one now worth about $900 (£730).

At the start of 2016, single coins were only worth around $435 but their value has climbed steadily all year.

The steady upward progress has continued despite regular hack attacks on virtual currency exchanges in which coins have been stolen.

Experts said the rise in value was linked to the long-term depreciation of the Chinese Yuan.

I am a bit surprised too. Especially after reaching the $900 level I would expect the mainstream media/news channels and sites to at least mention how Bitcoin has been performing prisewise. But no, nothing of that. It only got covered at very small news sites, but that's basically it. What did get mentioned by the mainstream media/news channels, is that a Bitcoin millionaire went broke due to his telephone number that got compromised where he lost all his coins as result. This just shows that negativity gets posted, but the positive aspect of the current price does not make it there. Pathetic media.

Media is one sided. They will publish what they see as relevant for them to make any money from their endorsers that will pay them for coverage on the stories that they deem so.
Somebody was paying them to pump up ETH as a replacement fro BTC but that failed.

I think everyone are to busy preparing for Xmas to worry about Bitcoin. Most of the journalists are most probably on leave or on holiday,

so there are less people to cover stories on Bitcoin. I have family in the press business and he says only skeleton staff are kept over the

They are too busy investing in Bitcoin right now

Let's wait till another important exchange gets hacked big time

In fact, it may actually be good news in its own right that mass-media doesn't seem to be particularly interested in Bitcoin right now. if they were crying about Bitcoin price surging at every corner that would attract more people and spur the price even higher. But it could cause Bitcoin to collapse later a lot stronger and deeper. What we see now looks more like pump-and-dump rather than organic growth. Could the price stick to these levels at least for a month, we could say that we got it, but this is unlikely. It will either continue surging for a few days and then a major correction  starts or the push is already exhausted

It sucks that it is not covered by media but I think it is for the better. If it gets hyped by the media, there might just be another bubble(once people heard about bitcoin price) that will easily burst once we rich new ATH.

The timing of the NYTimes coverage of ETH was a bit suspicious. It was designed to get eager noobs to invest.

Your right that most journalists are busy during the Christmas season, where I am presently the place is most quiet as usual. The journalist will cover what is the most important and urgent to present to the news.

I saw some news on twitter and the news I follow in my RSS reader this morning about the 900USD mark of the bitcoin value.

Most people still have no idea what Bitcoin is.
That might mean that even buying in at $800 to 900 could make you an early investor.
Imagine a scenario five years from now where Bitcoin is actually covered in the mainstream media and the price is watched like the stock market.
Owning at least a coin or two would put you in a much better position than 99% of the population.

That is actually good. Majority of people don't really know much about bitcoin and a half-minute report won't do much to educate them about it. Plus, if more people heard about it, many would probably do a buy and dump and for beginners like me, that's something I don't want to see.
