Managing rig when it is in next room is damn easy, monitoring is on and if something goes wrong you just go there and fix. Even if there are 10 or 20+ rigs.
What are your solutions about dummy plugs ?
Hdmi dummy plugs ? they cost 10-15$ on ebay.
I also saw tutorial to solve this via resistors plugged in VGA, but most of cards have no VGA neither DVI ports (DVI-D ports in some cases where resistors still won't work).
So what are your solutions for dummy plugs?
How do you avoid the issue when PC refuses to power up without monitor/dummy plug plugged in?

I totally understand your target to save any penny, but with having investment of $150-200k probably the best will be to spend $1500 on reliable and proven solution.

Definitely better than solder 100 home-made plugs

I use ubuntu 16.04 w/ amdgpu-pro as it doesnt require X.  Just set multi-user.target (aka runlevel 3) to disable lightdm/unity and use SSH to manage.

Never had a problem running headless with no dummy plugs in windows 8.1

Just make sure only the gpus are set as the active display, use team viewer to log in.  The only issue I have is you can not overclock memory in rx 470/480 on the non active gpu so I change it in the bios to set the clock I want.

You can use hdmi -> dsub adapter and put 100 ohm resistor across pins 1 and 6.

mate just to let you know this converter is working without resistor because the signal is converted anyway from diginal<->analog. Just plug it without resistor and you will see it works Smiley
@mettalmag - send me a PM and i'll let you know cheap offer. Just think about how to import those to Georgia Wink

PM sent Smiley

and if this converter will do its job it costs ~2$ on ebay and gives a huge difference from 1500$ to 200$ for quantity of 100. But where is logic if one can use this item for 2$ to trick the rig why there are dummys worth of 15$? What is the difference?

Asking the right question. Size and looks maybe?

it doesn't make sense, who cares about size (when actually there's only a small difference) when you save 12$ on each rig

Personally I'd do this:
https://www.amazon.com/1080P-Female-Adapter-Video-Converter/dp/B00OFQUDR0/ref=sr_1_22?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1482715765&sr=1-22&keywords=hdmi+to+vga

At $2.61 each with Free shipping

Then I'd follow the directions here:
https://rumorscity.com/2013/12/06/how-to-create-dummy-plugs-for-your-graphics-cards/

The resistors are pennies a piece so then you just need to sit down and spend a little time with your wire cutter and hot glue gun

I don't think there will be the need of resistors when the plug is converting the signal, it should work as is, but I already bought 75ohm resistors so just testing is left. The only thing I don't get is that I plugged resistors dirextly to mobo VGA pins but nothing happened, I know i'm missing an importent point here can someone explain ?

Those $2 converters definately don't work for the RX 470/480 cards I tried. Don't know if using resistors would help however. Dont have any on hand.

All my rigs are working with those 2$ HDMI to VGA converters without any mods/resistor , just  plugged to the main GPU and all my rigs are RX470 on windows 10.

The only time I've had to worry about this, I used a spare HDMI -> VGA converter like those pictured in previous posts - did NOT need to use resistors.

As a general rule though, it's not an issue - as I generally run mining machines on LINUX which DOES NOT HAVE THIS LAME ISSUE.

On linux sometimes it create problem as well but it is simple work around. Change default GPU to mainboard and problem solved (maybe it will help on windows as well?)
