You can but it depends what your goal is.

If you want to earn money you should definitely not do it. Laptops are very weak in comparison to GPUs and especially ASICs and they're not designed to be stressed 0-24h mainly because of the poor cooling solutions used in them.

Not your keys, not your coins!

Well you CAN do it but it won't be profitable. With CPU won't earn much. There are coins that are cpu-only mineable but then again you are using laptop which have not so powerful cpu.

Burstcoin  (BURST) low energy HDD mining will get you in the game.  I started with 100 GB of free space on a laptop top about 3 months ago.  Invested in a couple of external hard drives now up to 12 TB.  The more space you have the better but it doesn't take much to start.  In addition to it being low energy/green, the mining process is pretty user friendly.  I certainly am no tech wiz.

my suggestion is better you don't have to mining altcoin with your laptop because it would make your laptop heat and maybe gets hangs for sometimes. better you use hardware to mining or at least you can use vps to mining. if you use vps, then there is many software that you can use to mining.

Generally, altcoins mining on the laptop will not be highly recommended. it's worth mining with little bit profit or your laptop will be died.
You never have profit from your laptop. it wastes time and electricity fees.

At least you must be willing for see your laptop will be burning.
Never to does it.
Buy your GPU for mine altcoin. Although you were running it in low usage, that also gives a bad impact your hardware. Never try this at your home, dude.

Why do you want to burn your laptop,it's useless to mine any altcoins with your laptop even if it a new altcoins,in my opinion I would rather do faucets than to mine altcoins with my laptop, even if you google it,it's not profitable to mine altcoin with your laptop..

I would never recommend mining to anyone specially mining altcoins because of their price and how it always goes down. but if you want to do it, regardless you have to always keep your electrical cost in mind in addition to the damage that you may do to your hardware because of the overuse and be careful about temperatures.

you can also find some good information on this site: www.coinwarz.com and check out their calculator section here: www.coinwarz.com/calculators

I have zero mining experience but I'm sure that mining using your laptop won't bring any good results , unless the coin is proof of stake
currently I'm holding some omicrons (OMC) which is an investment platform and it's POS , so I'm able to mine some coins with my laptop without worrying about it since it depends on how much coins you have not how much hash power you have

Don't mine with your laptop. Laptops aren't as well cooled as desktops, and if your gpu stops working, it's hard to replace mainly because generally laptop parts are more rare and more expensive. If it gets to that point, you'd probably be better of selling for parts, unless the laptop is max ~2 years old ( 2 generations old  tops).

I'm mining BURST fine on my laptop (as previously mentioned) with two added external hard drives.  Cost to mine is essential the cost to have your laptop on.  Again you're mining with free HDD space, it's not huge power consumption that burns out your computer.

3 months I've mined about 70,000 coin.  Not getting rich through mining but it's a cool way to participate and get involved in the BURST community (and mining in general).

How many TB's of capacity are you mining with?

It's the only coin that can be mine with laptop all the other can harm your computer,I have read a lot about Burstcoin and this what makes them very popular to mine, very cost effective and the potential is huge..

So far I can think of two coins Burst and Storj but Storj is a different one so might really consider Burstcoin, but you need a hard drive with a huge space to mine Burstcoin,if you want to make it profitable 2 to 10 terrabyte should be consider.

I don't believe Storj is true HDD mining though right?  I think you basically rent out HDD space with Storj.

The green/eco friendly/low power HDD mining of BURST is definitely a cool aspect though.
