I've been off the forum for a while - family, holidays, life, etc. kept me away - now I'm back.
I'm curious what you all identify as the newest, most significant developments in the Bitcoin industry?
List your idea - briefly - with a summary line and then any opinion or detail further down in the post. I'm not trying to avoid the news - i can and do go to Coindesk. I'm curious what the people HERE believe to be the most significant developments.
Last and very important - please don't repeat an idea that's already been listed. I expect this thread to be dead after the top ten ideas are shared.
Thanks, it's great to be back!

To be honest, nothing much . Bitcoin is that slow-moving giant which only gains momentum once it speeds up. Unless I'm missing something, I think there have just been ordinary happenings: banks test the blockchain, Fintech meetings etc. The altcoin scene is much more exciting, although not of course as successful.

Well, if you consider dramatically fluctuating bitcoin's price recently is something that caught your attention, then here you go, for the past few weeks, in other words for the first half of the first month of 2017, bitcoin has been through significant changes, its price had reached over $1000 for a moment and then plummeted, sadly. And it seems to be stabilised at the moment

It depends upon the what time frame you are referring to, there has been much more events during 2016. One of the significant was not development but it was one of the biggest hack in the history of bitcoin exchange. Bitfinex lost 100,000 over BTC which make panic traders to short their holdings so much that it dumped the price to $400 range but actually that has created great buying opportunity for many elite traders who have bought as much as they can and doubled their fiat in less than 6 month period.

Theres nothing new in my own view but considering its price it do really change since from year 2016 until halving on which its price does really increase and now on this year we already reach $1100+ price but suddenly it drops its price again and reaching out again on $800 back.

To be honest, the project I am looking forward to is this ---> http://www.augmentorsgame.com/ { I saw it on this forum under the Press section } and I think this might be the killer App everyone is waiting for to open the door to mainstream adoption. If this goes viral like the PokeMon game, then we will be in for a rough ride. I am also looking closely at Kim Dotcom for this ---> http://fortune.com/2016/08/05/bitcoin-megaupload-kim-dotcom/

Will it be livestream? If there will be a livestream can you paste the link. Perhaps where to get the outcome of the summit, probably a blog or website.

Basically, it's the same old story as before. We've been writing some band-aid code to patch the crippled blocks, talking about various sidechain craziness, and constantly bumping up our fees as we send transactions. edit: oh yeah, Circle got fed up with the whole freak show and left the building.

When I first came to Bitcoin, I was quite excited. I saw it as a brilliant concept. It was going through a birth period with faucets, gambling and drug dealing. I hoped that it would grow out of that, and become a viable economic entity. Now we are a couple of years on, and it doesn't really seem to have progressed. Even in this thread somebody has suggested that the killer app is a game. Well I don't play games, I wanted Bitcoin to be a system for the exchange of virtual assets. I hoped for a system that would enable me to trade in domain names without the restrictions of fiat currencies. I've read a lot, and I hope I've picked up a basic understanding of Bitcoin. I want Bitcoin to be "intelligent" money, but I'm being abused because I think SegWit will help achieve this.
I'm now at the point where I think I should look for an alternative cryptocurrency that can benefit from the experiences of Bitcoin. I think the petty bickering will destroy Bitcoin if it continues.

Now the million Bitcoin question is what is "this" that Kim Dotcom wants to release in reality. There have been news articles about it featured everywhere but he hasn't yet said anything about what "this" will be and his tweets are extremely vague... For what it seems as of now everyone is anxious about vaporware. Too much hype, it seems his new service, whatever it might be, won't deliver.

Not much, for it is still the SeqWit activation and lighting networking, every talk in the ecosystem now is about how to scale the network either soft fork or hard fork

Exactly. I think we really need more aggressive development or Bitcoin will start having serious problems. Bitcoin Core should implement Lighting Network and there are other problems too. Like the growing unspent transactions pool and many other things. With endless quarrels, some altcoin will sooner or later overcome Bitcoin even in terms of market capitalization and transactions volume.

the main issue of bitcoin is usability. it comes in 2 forms.. 1. core dvs have put a 2 year hold on any REALISTIC long term strategy for this, and instead wasted time on a one time small gesture. 2. user front end ease of use. obviously dynamic blocks is the best suitable solution for number 1 because the blocks increment in small natural amounts nods can by consensus agree is acceptable (oh and yea ignore the fake doomsdays that dynamic leads to gigabyte blocks by midnight. thats the foolish core dev scare stories to avoid scaling bitcoin) as for the second option. although there is not much if any chatter about it. hardware wallets need to be revolutionised to not need computers attached and browser extensions downloaded to function.. and also not need lengthy public keys and decimal values typed in just to make tx's.. so imagine this as the 'killer app' of future bitcoin use. advertising bitcoin is not the problem. using bitcoin is. it needs to be simplified!! even hardware wallets need to be revamped. the issue is that it is too cumbersome, complicated and needs downloads/browser extensions or server access.. plus needing to copy and paste lengthy gobbledegook addresses and decimal numbers but there is a solution, should someone want to do it. SMART WATCHES/FITBIT wristbands advantages no software touches the device private keys remain hidden the device is wearable (new fashion craze=popular) making a tx is as simple as shaking your wrist no need to understand the mechanics of bitcoin to use it just google "programmable smart watches with NFC" and you'll see the tech is available. barclays are ahead of the game. first they are doing it with their native fiat payment method, https://www.shop.bpay.co.uk/categories/buy-bpay/product/wristband/wristbandbut barclays is knee's deep in hyperldger so next will be a hyperledger wristband, which will make hyperledger (bitcoins altcoin(banker) competitor) appealing to people that are not paranoid geeks

I think the most remarkable development in bitcoin world is the victory of Donald Trump against Hillary Clinton. This development is not only interest American People but also the whole world and cryptocurrencies markets too. We are going to see the effects of this results, in the near future.

Well most important innovation might be Segwit... But we're still for it.
As far as I know there was a very cool rise in Segwit acceptance but now it's stagnating. We're currently at around 25% of segwit acceptance. So still 70% to go :/

If this goes viral like the PokeMon game, then we will be in for a rough ride. 1. "Pokemon Go" went viral only because it the game has Pokemon in it, well known brand, known by pretty much anyone. If the game was based around new concept of battle using something different that Pokemon, its success would be very limited. 2. I visited this site, and first thing I noticed: "TOKEN SALE" and "ICO", so they just want to develop a game and link it to their token, not base it on Bitcoin?

Now if you look around it seems like no one is playing this :p 2. I visited this site, and first thing I noticed: "TOKEN SALE" and "ICO", so they just want to develop a game and link it to their token, not base it on Bitcoin?
It seems like a huge scam yeah... You can buy in game currency and all they're saying is that the tokens will be "supported by btc blockchain" (I don't see how and they don't explain it) So that number of currency is limited and can be tracked. For me it's clearly a scam. False investment. And the entry price for the lowest package is 0.136BTC!!!! Who in his right mind would invest more than 100$ in a game made by unknown people without even a demo? xD
