1) I tried to point an Antminer S1 directly to btc node with wallet enabled and it will not connect or mine.
2) So I tried pointing Antminer S7 directly to the same node and it will not connect or mine.
3) So I set up a p2pool node, and pointed both to the p2pool node and both mine perfectly.

My question is this:  Why won't Antminers mine DIRECTLY to a wallet?  I have all of the settings correct, all ports, all permissions.
What in Antminer's on-board set up will not allow it to mine directly to a wallet?
I really want to putty in and change it, whatever it is.

Solo mining with cgminer requires you to add a --btc-address parameter for it to work, which is not normally set anywhere in the antminer configuration webpage but you can tag it on as extra parameters. However bitmain's cgminer fork is based on an outdated 2.5 year old partially broken version of cgminer that probably doesn't work properly with solo mining. Additionally the controller hardware in the antminers is very low powered and probably wouldn't be able to sustain reasonable hashrate solo mining.

You can either set up your own solo mining pool with ckpool or, by far the easiest way, is to point your hashes at solo.ckpool.org which also will dramatically decrease your chances of losing blocks as orphans.

Solo mining is only worth the gamble in two ways
a. stick miners to play the loto
b. free power to play the loto.

There's a calculator out there, but frankly you may as well buy lottery tickets, it's cheaper then the power you will burn.
