Why is it that the Bitcoin community is full of these people?  Every imaginable way of stealing, cheating and scamming is done on the blockchain.  Every imaginable scam is being deployed in conjunction with Bitcoin.  People going to jail left and right.  How did it come to be that Bitcoin people are so damn dishonorable?  Will that ever change?

This community is poisoned.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

fiat is no better

bank thefts
blackmails
murders for hire
pickpockets
card cloners
nigerian price phone scams
phishing for love 'my love i need hospital bill paid or i die next week
sugar daddies, girls marrying old guys just to get name on a will
corporate money laundering
the list goes on

the only difference between fiat and bitcoin is there is less (never zero, but less) chance of knowing who the other party is to slap them with a wet fish/court order.

so never trade with anyone you dont know anything about. unless you can slap them with a wetfish/court order should they do you wrong, dont trade.

That's the bad side of cryptocurrency. It's decentralized and is free from the central controlling system which is cool but scammers are taking advantage of this unreversable - anonymity and victimizing those poor people with lack of knowledge. But then again it will return to centralization if we want to do something with it.

Exactly this. This community isn't poisoned or worse than any other community... The world is poisoned. People are like this, not Bitcoin. People scamming with fiat always existed, always went to jail left and right, always were dishonorable. That won't change anytime soon, if at all, unfortunately.

These are the kinds of threads that give mainstream media something to jump on regarding saying crap about Bitcoin Roll Eyes

This community is poisoned.
You are missing the point here. It is not bitcoin community. It is the human kind, people are poisoned. Money is root of all evil. And humans would do anything to earn money.
Bitcoin, or cryptocurrency in general, is just a new tool for them to achieve that. When there is profit on the line then you will see scammers, cheaters, thieves waiting to rob you.
We need to accept that this world is not ideal place - just don't blame our inventions, it is humans who misuse them.

People like these use Bitcoin taking advantage of its anonymity.
Things like this happen with fiat every single day.
There is no difference between them.

Here I's go correcting shit again:

http://www.cracked.com/article_20372_5-ridiculous-myths-everyone-believes-about-wild-west.html

Quote
The Myth:

Black Bart, the Dalton Gang, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid all were famous for their daring robberies. They could take entire fortunes from banks that had slightly less security than a modern hot dog stand.

And why not? Lawlessness ruled, vaults didn't exist, and criminals didn't give a shit. The banks might as well have left their big white bags of gold sitting out on the porch.

The Reality:

Research can find evidence of only about eight true bank heists, and that's across 15 states in 40 freaking years. Eight. As a point of comparison, bank robberies in 2010 amounted to 5,600. Hell, even if we'd never seen a Western in our lives, that would seem like a low number.

But there are several things to consider. First, towns back in those days were much smaller, with the sheriff's office, saloon, general store, and bank usually clustered together for convenience. This one-stop social-needs block usually made up the dead center of town. Being that the sheriff's office was usually no more than a few doors down, you were probably pulling your big heist within earshot of the law.

Second, the banks actually weren't that easy to get in and out of. Old West buildings were usually built pretty close together, meaning the bank would be flanked by other buildings, while a reinforced back wall would keep anyone from intruding from behind (you can sort through the Freudian implications of that). When you walk out the front door with the loot, there's the sheriff waiting for you. Now, the most famous robberies -- the jobs pulled by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid -- were actually true. But that's the point -- they got famous for a reason. They were doing what nobody else was crazy enough to do.

media says darkweb is bad..

people know amsterdams redlight district, detroit streets, and syria even worse.

If this is not sarcasm, then I though you are old enough to know this better. Internet scams are nothing new, and certainly didn't start with the introduction of cryptocurrency.
There were purchase frauds of all kind, we had counterfeited postal money orders used to commit online fraud, online auction scams, PayPal frauds, call tag scams and MANY, MANY more scams.

Just read this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_fraud

I agree with every point you made except that your take that money is the root of all evil doesn't quite agree with the message of your post! Money of any kind is good, money is a servant and goes wherever it is sent. Any evil that gets in between, if you check again, emanates from humans. The heart of man is exceedingly treacherous, let's keep Bitcoin and even the fiats out of this, we are our problem!

It's not a question of assholes.

It's a question of "what do you risk?"
And fact is that with bitcoin scams... You risk pretty much nothing!
That's the downside of anonymity, you risk nothing so you can scam whoever you want ^^

Lack of regulation. Also because it is a small market under the radar of govts, which makes it an ideal ground for criminals to work. They avoid the more eyecatching asset markets because they don't want to draw attention to themselves. Bitcoin is perfect for them because it has a lot of idealists, and a lot of young people who haven't had any experience of being scammed and are perfect marks.

If you think there is not any hackers, thieves, scammers, outside bitcoin, then you are fully wrong. When it's time of money scammers are everywhere, even in offices. In this case I don't advice you to go in any hackers place i think you could get a heart attack.

Are you specifically talking about Bitcointalk as a community, or the general Bitcoin community?

Every imaginable way of stealing, cheating and scamming is done on the blockchain.  Every imaginable scam is being deployed in conjunction with Bitcoin.  People going to jail left and right.
I think it goes deeper, beyond our wildest imaginations. There are probably organized scam groups distributed all around the communities using tens of accounts and shills.

How did it come to be that Bitcoin people are so damn dishonorable?  Will that ever change?
It depends on where you are dealing and who you're dealing with. Some places do not often have these types of people.

I find it hard to take you serious sometimes and this is defiantly one of those times, all communities are filled with people and once you add a financial incentive people show their true colours, it has nothing to do with bitcoin per se.  And no it will never change, self interest and greed is what makes bitcoin work........
