I'm guessing it'll be around 60-70BTC due to current bitcoin price?

I'm interested regardless. I think everyone is. Just do it Cheesy The demand is definitely there.

The pricing formula is described in the first post and has nothing to do with the BTC exchange rate.

if difficulty jumps up high enough then they'll calculate a decent price to warranty a pretty safe ROI.  I'm still iffy about the ROI of my Batch 3, not from BFL but I worry about others.  We're over 50TH/s and not all the Batch 1s have been received.

More like 40BTC, the price formula is in the first post.

Product sounds good, but I hope some other ASIC companies get going. It would not be good to only have one company dominating the aSIC market. Competition always helps.

I would buy 2. I think you should not stop. You have somewhat centralized the hashing power of the network  Shocked . Can we please work towards true decentralization. We promise to make you rich and help you produce economical tablets and such. I would love to invest in a company you owned yifu. THX!

No date was given as this was just market research by Avalon Asics, but their google form implied a shipping time of "May/Early June"

Quote
Due to overwhelming demand, we are going to gauge interest on a smaller 2 module version of the Avalon unit that's effectively half of a Avalon original in size, and greater than 45Gh/s in performance.

As per usual the price of the unit is determined by the following equation.
mining_difficulty * ( 1 + number_of_month_in_lead_time) over a 30 day period on the unit's hashing power. to those interested, here is the form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rJJniFiYn0XMPZVKVni86xBvSTylWw0fv1c1zAfuR68/viewform

I am guessing, but it would be reasonable to assume that it won't be expandable as it will be 1/2 the size of the orginal avalon.  I suggest following the google doc link and registering interest if you are interested.

Did they really have to ask? Of course there's demand.

These guys could sell out of T-shirts with the power they yield right now.

Half size @ half price of 36-50BTC is fine, no need for second mortgage  Grin

agreed. I want to see ASIC devices start a mass-rollout though, as $4000 for 45GH is a tremendous deal for early buyers, but probably carries over a 50% profit margin for avalon.

Would rather see mass-produced 1-3GH/s devices for $300-500 a peice. It would end up with many more small investors and aid the distrobution of the BTC network far better then selling more hashing powerhouses that key players or big investors can only afford

This is a really important point -- low barriers to entry are key to competition. No competition = monopoly, and we all know a monopoly on hashing power = the end of BTC.

Consider a future where BTC grows legs and a large bank decides to become a "transaction processor" (transaction strengthener, if you will)... the kind of resources any of the big four could throw at this would utterly dwarf the network's throughput today. A good way to prevent this is for top tier efficiency hashing devices to be available as commodity goods, just as CPUs and GPUs are today.

to shred some light, the model is already made, as we have many prototypes and designs in house, it was a matter of if there's enough demand to warrant a batch.

If not, it'll just get made in a later timeline, for next generation for example.

We're ready for release Smiley Missed the boat on 3 previous batch and could not get in because each time I get the notification too late, hopefully not this time!

Dang 3500 responses, even if 50% buy, that 3:1 buy ratio based on 600 unit batch Smiley

I just hope it won't be half-size/double-price kinda deal. Even though primary business concern is to maximize profits.

Same casw w/ only 2 modules... with space to add modules at a later date would be awesome.

A half sized Avalon with only 2 modules would be... meh... nice I guess.
