I have a heap of GPU cards for GPU Algorithms but I've read that even more Energy Efficient Scrypt ASIC's are out or coming out now.

Is it better if I mine these type of Scrypt coins early with my cards before the difficulty goes up or even solo at the time ? Is that what an early adopted is called ?

Yes, these days you have to mine with a Scrypt ASIC Miner, if you don't own one you can always rent one/some from websites like MiningRigRentals or Nicehash.
