Recent step-by-step tutorial for solo mining on RPi3 (educative purpose!)

Hello,

I'll start right away by telling I know the odds of getting any money - at all - with this setup are ... say, low. So there's no need to remind me of the commercial futility of my request. It's just out of curiosity I'm trying to do this. :-)

I find loads of articles about this. But nothing is recent and it's mostly all about pooled mining. I'd really like to set something up with a local copy of the blockchain.

I've got an idle RPI3, a big 128GB SD card and a broadband connection. No asic, since they're all sold out and I guess they won't make much difference anyway. I'm in for the principle, not for the cash. :-)

Is there a tutorial somewhere I could follow ? Or an interesting online document I could start with ?

Better to mine alt coins with any chance to many anything from those specs.
Then just exchange what you mine into btc.
This is the wisest thing you can do at this point in time when it comes to mining.

He knows that he won't earn anything, he stated in the OP that it's only for educational purposes.

OP, because mining with CPU has become so unprofitable there's no software being developped any longer that supports it (especially not for ARM-based systems such as the RPi), if you really want to learn how to mine you can always buy a cheap USB-miner it won't earn you anything either but you'll learn a lot with it. Or you can mine an altcoin with your CPU on your PC.

Yes, I'm *definitely* not in for the money !  Which doesn't mean I won't be glad if by shear coincidence, someday, it would produce a few Satoshi. 

I thought BfgMiner would be the right choice - because there seem still be code in it to do cpu mining.

So if somebody knows a tutorial to set up something like that ... I would be immensely grateful ! :-)

That being said, I tried to order asic usb hardware, but it's all sold out. Because being obsolete also now I presume ... Hence the question to do cpu mining. But if somebody knows where I could order such hardware in Europe ... ?

I have 2 Antminer U2's, a geccoscience compaq and a Gridseed 5-chip GC3355 ASIC gathering dust.. And i'm from europe.
The gear hasn't been turned on in a really, really long time, but it was working last time i used it.

Also, the gridseed doesn't have a fan (passive cooling only), no PSU, no usbcord and i've only used it to mine LTC, so i never tested out the sha256d hashing (cause it was wildly ineffective at hashing sha256d even when it was relatively new).

Also, i think i still have the original case of the geccoscience, but the U2's cases are long gone, as is the gridseed's original packaging.

I can sell you some of this gear if you want to, just don't expect to ROI

There is no tutorial because there is no software that does what you want. I consciously removed the ability to mine with cpu and gpu from cgminer years ago to prevent people futilely attempting to do so, and in the meantime the communication protocol for mining was completely revamped. Thus there is no current mining software that both mines on cpu and speaks the current mining protocol.

You could try the bfgminer support thread for an official response, but I actually hope it's the same there to prevent more futile exercises and not encourage pointless CPU use, PC hijacking and botnet creation.

what do you mean ?
