Need some spare btc for a new PC

Ok, here's the thing and the idea. If I were to go to the my university computer lab where computers are not restricted by anything, so I everyone has full freedom with them, and install a miner to start up with windows in the background, excluded in the antivirus and working on low % so it doesn't slow down the pc and use those 30+ pcs to mine some alt-coin (example). Would that pay off in some time and way and also, what's the punishment if I were to get caught besides the suspension?

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

So you know it it wrong.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

I know it is wrong, I'm just interested if it's worth doing in sense of can it payoff? Also, it would be running on really low % so it doesn't slow the pc in any way so they won't be noticing it at all.

Even if they had very powerful GPUs it wouldn't be worth it.. You would generate maybe a penny a month.. LOL

You would want to mine another coin like ETH or ZEC (and again not worth unless they have some sort of decent GPU in each PC) -- BTC mining needs ASICS now.

This is kind of a weird thing to ask because everybody knows that every university has an i.t team to monitor what happens on each and every computer and those computers are connected to the university network.
That would comprise the whole campus's network integrity.
So do you really think it go by unnoticed?
Once they find it they will track down where those sends are going to and charge you with hacking or whatever they want to charge you with and will include prosecution including jail time because students and professors have their thesis on these computers that are used on the network. They plug their laptops on it and each of them will sue the university for not having any security in place to keep their files and data safe from such breaches in security.
If you are a student or alumni of that place you will get suspended and possibly fined which will lose all your tuition and even more.
Would you think it would be worth the risk to do this? Really do you think? Roll Eyes

it's not worth the risk of getting kicked out of school that's for sure, it will take forever to mine any decent coin for money using those computers

Small time mining is not worth it. You will be caught sooner or later.
Again, you can only mine a few penny and once you got caught,
the school will investigate you and most likely you will not only
be suspended but will be kick out of the school and possibly, jail time
if they found out more evidence against you that will warrant it.

Its the risk you willing to take?

I know it is wrong.
It is theft.

So there must be something wrong with you, your morals, your conscience and your thought processes if you are even thinking about it.

Let me put it this way:

I know this guy that has over 1,000 BTC.  I am pretty sure I can take them from him however I might have to torture and kill him to get him to give me the BTC but I am pretty sure I can dispose of the body in such a way as to not get caught.  Pretty sure.  Is it worth it?

An alt, yes. Bitcoin, forget about it. You'd probably need 300,000 PCs to match one ASIC or something. And it's something increasingly prevalent and increasingly frowned upon. They'd nail you to the wall for it.

Relax guys, I didn't say I was going to do it, I was just interested how would that go. Now I'm thinking of going the other way, speaking to a IT professor of maybe starting a project like this with the school allowing it, I know that bitcoins could not be mined efficiently but I was aiming for some alt-coin anyways.

As I said, I'm thinking of starting a project like that since the first suggestion wasn't worth it, yeah? Cheesy

the funny thing is, when the government do the same to you, i'm talking about your case Burst, it's not considered theft(or you were in agreement with their decision? i doubt it was morally correct anyway) but when you do it to other people it's considered a crime

this whole system is fucked up really

Hmmm. Thats a good idea of you. But dont get caught. Lol😄
Its more like theft to me. Just like stealing some pennies from your mother's purse.
Its not a good idea to do. Its a shame that you will be jailed just for mining on a university computer lab. Besides, i dont think you could get good profit from that. You need proper mining rig to make it profitable.

perhaps with the skills you have in the field of IT technologies, you can do anything related to technology, but it is better to use your knowledge to good use and I think it would be more useful
In any way, large or small of a theft of include criminal acts, should be willing to bear the consequences

Amateur mining (of any cryptocoin) is dead.  At best, you would make a few dollars per month.

You would be wasting your time taking a big risk for nothing.

Mining Monero on one core for example gives you ~5 cents per day (24 hours). So 30 cores are 1.50$, you decide, if that's worth possible jail time.

Mining is no more a game of casual PC operations, Now it's a serious business and it's better to leave for them who treat it in such way. Yes according to your plan it would give you around 0.50 cents to $2 (for all PCs) but that's far less than the fees which you might have paid for the admission so it is not worth it in my opinion.
However, you can learn new skills using those PCs and earn through freelancing much more than this plan and there won't be any punishment for you if you are using it to learn something using it.

If we skip the legal parts, if this scheme was remotely profitable, people wouldn't rent out botnets, but use them themselves to get crazy-rich.
