You lose a lot converting from an MOV to a gif and trying to keep it under 2 megs to post but this is a pan around our backyard with my wife's iPhone.
We had some parent/teacher meetings to attend first and I was a bit impatient but we managed to finish around dusk and quickly ran home to grab the camera and tripod. We headed north and tried to find a place with a north and east exposure. When we finally did, we realized there were high voltage powerlines in our view... I only cared about that because I wanted some nice pictures but I didn't want to spend anymore time driving since the auroras don't wait. Because I lent my newer camera (the one I took the moon shots with) to a friend who is taking a photography course, I took my old SLR and played with it for quite some time trying to remember how to change the settings. I took quite a few pictures but for some reason, the old compact flash memory only recorded 6 and 3 of them were only showing darkness. Thankfully, my wife's and youngest daughter's iPhone were more than capable of taking some nice pics without a tripod or playing with settings - glad I sprung for the Pro models. I'll post a few pics later. I'm gonna head back out in case they spark up again
