“However, a miner often can start mining a candidate for block N+1 even before he has seen what was included in block N. That’s because he only needs the hash of block N, and he often can get it very quickly by a certain trick.” In that case, the miner must start with an empty block N+1, even if there are transactions waiting in his queue: because, without knowing the contents of block N, he cannot check whether those transactions are valid or not. If he is lucky, he may solve that empty block N+1, even before he finishes downloading the body of block N. That is why there are empty blocks."

tl;dr better to get a whole block quickly and certainly than fart about grabbing up fees. This will be the case ever less as fees become more worth it and block rewards less so.

Thanks V8.
Haven't sent a merit in quite a while as I have been low. Thought I was as down to my last one but had 3 apparently.

^Nice both. It's a travesty that long-serving people like you and the others don't have more recognition, title and merits. Maybe there could be advancements for 'contributing while keeping the signal-to-noise ratio up'.

Meh, it's not that important to me tbh.
Just being able to have my questions answered in a civil way and to be able to contribute when I can is enough for me.
I would be happy with a thumbs up type button.

Yeah it´s sad that merits are so scarce. I dont care about the merits but I want to like a post, show the poster how I really appreciate his answer or the information the provided for me. It would be nice to have a equal distributed source of something (even if its just a like) for that.

In addition to leaving them a reply saying "I really appreciate your answer," you could always link the post in this thread and if someone else with a merit to spare finds it worthy, they will merit it on your behalf.

All Members.

Today’s Breaking News.

It is with great sadness that I have to mention the loss of a few local businesses.    All due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

A local bra manufacturer has gone bust,
    Submarine company has gone under,
Manufacturer of food blenders has gone into liquidation,
Dog kennel manufacturer has had to call in the retrievers.

So, your first option feels like spamming the thread for me, if there is nothing else to say/state.

The second option is not the intention of what I wanted to say. Of course I can propose a good post there and its nice if it gets rewarded. However, someone else is deciding if that post is merit-worthy not me.

So lets say you have a scenario of two poster posting opposing opinions. A democrat vs. a republican post. A merit source who is republican can appreciate opinion A) with lets say 10 merits. I, as a democrat, can barely give out one most of the time, even though I think the second post is more merit-worthy, e.g. its also my opinion. So my opinion on the post it less worthy.
(this is just an exxagerated example, of how it could work out. Of course giving merits shouldnt just be about supporting a one-sided opinion.)

I am not sure if i properly explained my thoughts right now. However, thank you for your post Wink

Happens organically, as we just saw an example of. Better to do it that way than try to centralize some complex system.
