Hugging face found they were breached and determined it was a frontier model and then OpenAI admitted they were so inept their llm outwitted them.

I see this as a complete fail on the part of OpenAI, any frontier model can hack a website so this is not PR material.

Think about it more simply. There is no objective evidence that shows that the model independently decided to do this, all you have is the words of a company whose entire future rests on things like this being true. Also there is no proof that someone didn't directly prompt or suggest actions during this evaluation, maybe they knew of the vulnerability beforehand or identified it. So without technical details that are sufficient for independent verification, extraordinary claims should always be treated with a lot of skepticism! Especially when there is a big financial interest in those claims.

Don't just believe them because they told a nice story..

I think you are missing the fact HF found this and announced the breach first.

But HF can't prove that what OpenAI claims happened has happened, that is impossible being on the side of the breach. That is where the PR part comes in. Look at us, we have achieved AI supremacy gives us all your money! At the same time their publicly released models makes errors like a small child.  

You are now arguing my point that its a bad pr stunt, which was your argument.

I think what you actually meant is they are trying to apply Spin.

Through that lens I would say they are also trying to protect liability stating it escaped containment.

Same thing they do by saying a LLM hallucinates rather than admitting it is giving false information as a authoritative resource.

For someone of the age of 80 he is not doing bad, none of my grandparents even reached that age and they were in much worse shape in their early 70s. He is very old, people forget that! He should not run again for anything, it is time to retire.

In those ages a few years of difference is huge, it is like when you move from your early 20s to 30s. You turn from a party machine into a grandpa relatively speaking.

There is the old saying that even bad press is good press. And it's also interesting because the Moonshot kimi (actual open source, too!) model seems to be starting to threaten the American frontier models.

And that actually makes me wonder, is it really possible that the agent did this on its own? I almost have a hard time fully buying that. I wonder if it was somehow "prompted" into doing this. I haven't actually read the article though, maybe I'm missing something. 😁

I'm going to guess it was being trained specifically to compete on the tests as that is how they are being compared, similar to nvidia scamming their video drivers to artificially inflate frames in benchmarks.

They may have prompted it asking how training optimally for the specific test and it was doing what it was told?
