 ...but poetry is art right?  Pronunciation could be a science but it isn't so strict as climatology and meteorology which are both clearly immutable.  It can also be an art; singers and songwriters regularly change the pronunciation of words to fit the beat.   If you listen to British singers, you can't really tell much of the time that they actually are British because they adopt a more Americanized pronunciation since fits the rhythm of the song much better.   I'll throw out a few words and you guys tell me how many syllables - I'm not interested in the science but the number of syllables you pronounce when normally speaking the word.

personally, I pronounce shouldn't as two syllables (should-ent) and previous as two as well (preev-yus)

long story short (I know; too late)

Line 1: some (1) · preev-yus (2) · bull-shit (2) = 5 syllables
Line 2: should-ent (2) · have (1) · now (1) · tit (1) · for (1) · tat (1) = 7 syllables
Line 3: re-tal-i-at-ing (5) = 5 syllables
